HDD For The PS3!!!

I believe 7200rpm means faster Rate Per Minutes... so, basically the 7200 (I think) runs faster than the 5400.

5400 and 7200 are the Rates per Minute (the speed at which your harddrive works). 5400rpm is the preferred speed for the ps3, 7200 although it works faster, causes system overheating at a much faster rate. go with the 54 double OChiSoxBombers

Correction: RPM stands for Revolutions Per Minute, and refers to the rate at which the Hard Disk spins. This is one factor that effects the transfer speed, but it isn't the only one.

Correction: RPM stands for Revolutions Per Minute, and refers to the rate at which the Hard Disk spins. This is one factor that effects the transfer speed, but it isn't the only one.

By the way, if the OP is buying a hard disk from a store (and not the Internet) and the dealer is selling you a hard disk and doesn't know what RPM stands for, I would go to another store... 7200 RPM hard disks are more expensive than 5400 ones. There is no reason for a dealer to not know what it means.

The PS3 only supports the SATA 1.5Gbit/s standard, however it doesn't really matter much since 3.0Gbit/s ("SATA II") drives are backwards compatible.
