Yes, it would be nice, but with PSP's screen we would not be able to see the difference so why bother.

HD requires 720p, which is above the PSP's 480p resolution. HD movies for the PSP would be pointless. That said, I've been encoding all my stuff at 720p for the PSP, since I also view the same content on my PS3 (yay media server and terabyte drive). Most of it looks surprisingly good blown up on a 53" screen :)

Well I suppose combined with the slim and it's video out abilites this would make the psp the cheapest HD player?

I thought the slim was putting out a 480p signal. (480i with composite cables)

And UMD's 1.7GB isnt much for doing HD movies, its enough to do 480p just fine, which is dvd resolution, and its also what UMDs have been encoded at.

There's no reason for us to have another HD movie format. UMD was only meant as a portable video format, never meant to replace dvd, or anything really.

And I'm not sure 333mhz/64mb ram is really enough to decode 720p AVC video...

WTF the PSP can't play HD content, even if it could it's only doing it through PS3's CPU via remote play and the PSP screen size ain't even HD. This whole thread is for the lack of a better word pointless (you thought I was gonna say stupdi didn't you)

Yeah, I'd like it, but the PSP doesn't have the capabilities.

The PSP doesn't even have 480 lines of resolution. HD movies would just be a waste on the PSP. Also, HD movies require a lot of horsepower to decode. I doubt the PSP could handle it.

Yes and No in the same time . Yes , because the quality would be amazing , and viewing it on a HD-TV would be awesome , and no because the download time for them would be pretty long :?
