My 60GB model got YLOD so I had it repaired but it got YLOD again. Now it is just sitting in its original box until I get the necessary tools to try & fix it myself.
Seems like so far 84% of launch units have failed from users here. I had no idea there were so many failures with the model I have... I thought it was rare. (Not that this is a super-scientific study, but still... surprising.) donalbaneI personally don't consider it a problem with the wear and tear of 3+ years of heavy usage.

Really? what do you think of the 360's failure rate, then? I used my launch 360 4 years before it died. My PS3 died in 1.5. 1.5 years of not so heavy usage, at that. Seems weird that the 360 gets so much anger from users who experience failures, but the PS3 seems to get the pass from people. At least I'm not detecting as much anger here from people.... they seem very forgiving overall.

My 60gb got ylod in December but I didn't have the money to repair until begining of February. Got it fixed locally for less than sending it to Sony. It got ylod again 20 days after it was fixed and got it fixed again (Monday) for free because it was under 30 day warranty. I think I am going to buy a slim, transfer my data over, and then sell my 60 gb, but I am going to wait until I have my tax refund so I hope that it holds out that long.

I have seen tons and tons of post about how people's 60gb PS3's have been crapping out lately... I think that it is only a matter of time until they are all gone and will either require and upgrade or constant repairs. So has your launch ps3 died yet?yentlequibleMy sons did bowt 3 weeks ago now.Was left with YLOD and Big little planet stuck inside.Sold it as spares and now he's got a Fat 80Gb but with 320 GB drive fitted.
His original launch 60 was just over 2 years old when it expired-Pretty poor for a console that cost us £299 from new.
Mine hasn't died yet.. what model should I trade it in for?Jbller3Get a Slim model-being latest out and smaller cooler running chips inside, hopefully will out last the old "Fat" versions.
We only bought my son a fat 80Gb cos we got it brand new and ££s cheaper than a slim.
You're exaggerating. I've read quite a few, but it's not like the RRoD issue. Although mine is still going strong.
Is it just my imaginenation, or is it only the 60 Gb models acting up? Sounds "Hinky" to me.
Got mine right at the PS3 release and it's still running like a champ. Should it ever die on me, I'll probably just replace it with a slim.

Yeah...mine died around xmas.
Yes, dead. Ever since I can no longer tolerate the inconvenience of stopping at FLASHING FLASHING FLASHING RED street lights. Closing my eyes & gritting my teeth I plow thru busy thoroughfares. Haven't killed anyone yet, sigh. Trying to justify to self not fixing/replacing PS33333333333 by playing PS2 system/games.
Yep. YLOD just before christmas. Got it repaired for christmas day then broke again last week. Had to pay £70 for the first fix but now its on free warranty. When it breaks after the six month warranty I will probably just upgrade to a slim. I got my own 320GB HDD so i will go with the cheapest model.:)
Sadly mine died just a few weeks ago, I have a slim coming in the mail sometime soon, I sure do miss the old 60 gig though, it lasted me a little over 3 years.
