It can work, you have a chance, just delete everything on it...format it...

I dont think you can just use any computer hdd to use on your PS3. It has to be a 2.5 inch SATA hdd. There are some awesome deals on newegg.com for 250 gb+ hdds.

And if the one in your computer happens to be the right kind, the PS3 will auto format it into the PS3's native format (FAT), and you should be fine.

The hard drive has to a SATA 2.5 inch version. If it's not a SATA hard drive that's 2.5 inches then it won't work. If the hard drive from your old computer doesn't fit then you'll have to buy another one that will. Go to newegg, they have great deals on hard drives.

So western digital 2.5s are the only drives that will work for it?

No dude, any other brand will work as long as its SATA, 2.5"... Western Digital, Seagate, I replaced my 60GB with a Seagate 250GB. That website they mentioned above does have some good deals.. and it will auto-format, you will be prompted upon installation. A very easy install

Guys the PS3 doesn't format a HDD to Fat32, that's only for external devices. (Like USB Drives)

Do you think that replacing it would cause higher possibility for the dreaded yellow light or no change?

Same here. I didn't do it yesterday. I did it about 2 months ago, maybe. Either way, it's awesome. Gives you plenty of breathing room for games that have mandatory installs. I got mine off Newegg for around $80. I also bought a 600 gb external at the same time for around the same price. They're both definitely worth looking into.
