Ok, I found a complete list of cars for Gran Turismo 5. It stated that, 10000 cars will be available to race. But it said that 340 will be able to be raced at release, and the 10000 later? I didn't understand, does this mean that the game will have updates that come with cars? How will it work? I just got my PS3 and I've been anticipating this game forever. Thnx!

10000??? there isnt even 10000 different models of cars. unless you were to have a 1980 car then have a 1985, 1990, 1995,2000,2005,2010 of the same model of car which if you ask me is very pointless

why would you want 10000 cars, when 10 cars look pretty much the same and you had to PAY for all 10. the cars look so great in this game that it much take some time to make them. if they took the time and mae 100 canrs that are all different they will make just as much money but have to put in a lot less work.
10000 cars is a good idea but you have to remember that as good as the graphics are they are not photo realistic. what happens when gt6 is out?? these cars will no longer be goon anymore. when games are photo realistic then this would be a great idea because the hard work will never go to waste because nothing will ever be better than photo realistic.
if this is what the devs want to do then i dont care but it doesnt make sence to do this they will only loose money and profit will NEVER come. unless of course someone is rich enough and wants to own all 10000

I think the idea here is to truly appeal to the car enthusiast. I doubt that the company expects people to buy every single car they have to offer (as you're correct. That would probably cost a simply stupid amount). They are probably trying to appeal to the people who are into cars enough that they have a favorite model of car nailed down to the year. Some of us, we just the Mustang. But there are those out there who love the '85 Mustang more than the '88 or anything after the '90's. It's those people who will probably be stoked to find out that they can bring that car (specifically) into the game to customize to their hearts content. Build their dream machine within the game.
If I had to guess, I'd say those are the consumers they're aiming at with such a selection.

In GT4 there was an 1890 mercedes benz that was a wagon with a motor. It could reach a top speed of 1 mile an hour :)

I doubt that you will have to buy each car individually. I could see buying 100 for like $10.00, not .50/each. Polyphony isnt that stupid.
