Do any PS3 games actually run at 1080p?

I'm FINALLY getting my new HD TV after a year of owning a PS3 and playing in blurry vision on my old tube TV. I've found 2 Toshiba TV's both pretty much the same, except one is full HD and one is not. I still don't fully understand all this HD TV stuff... but I do know the price is £100 more.

This is the cheaper one.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-32AV615DB-32-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B0020HR6QM/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2PS7RG1RZRFM2&colid=54YQMI8L9VQQ

And this is the Full HD one.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Toshiba-32RV635DB-32-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B001TUYQ46/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I3EQJTBZYGQD6P&colid=54YQMI8L9VQQ

Will the cheaper one only go up to 720i or will it go up to 1080 interlaced and just not progresive? More to the point, after looking at the back of all my Blu Ray cases, all my games only support 720i... including my most recent game Prototype.

What do you guys think?

Does anyone know if UFC or Tiger Woods 10 run at 1080p? I've lent both to a friend and can't check the case.

most of the ps3 games dont go all the way to 1080p,mainly the multiplatform games , but the ps3 exclosive games mostly run at 1080p

as for the TV's a.there is no 720i resolotion

b.1080i is not as sharp as p since i only prosses half of the screen evry run the picture can look like its rumbling (at least it looks like that on my screen which is 1200p) i wuld get the Full HD version since it is way better its contrast is 50k:1 and the cheaper's is 18K:1 and the res is much higher if u want to getthe most out of ur ps3 go with the full hd tv ull get much more then just 1080P res with it its worth the money

If u really wana good quality get Full HD, and btw there is no 720i, there is: 480i= sucks like nothing als. 480p= its not that good but its ok for some ppl. 720p= now we start talking that's awesome and the best of the best 1080P. So the most of game allmost all games go form 720P to 1080P and that's amazing resolution, btw if i was u i will deffinelty buy Full HD, but that's just me. :)

Now Playing.

(PS3): Killzone2

(PSP): Final Fantasy Dissidia

(Xbox 360): Nothing

(PC): Nothing

almost no ps3 games run at 1080p though you can force upscale the newer games to 1080p. the last game that i knwo of that actually runs at full 1080p was Lair.

Sorry got interlaced and progressive the wrong way round.. I am awear interlaced is better than progressive. Just still learning the termonology. So is the maximum res for the cheaper version only 720p? I think I will go Full HD. Just curious if the cheaper version goes up to 1080p... I'm not that worried about the image being interlaced so long as the resolution is higher.

The only legitimately 1080p games I can think of are Wipeout HD and Ridge Racer 7. GT5P is close but it's not 1920x1080 - it's 1280x1080, and just stretched to fill 1920 pixels wide. They also remove a lot of the anti-aliasing in order to keep the performance from nosediving at that resolution. A surprising number of PS3 (and 360) games aren't even running at 1280x720, and a few multiplatform titles run at even lower resolutions on the PS3 - Ghostbusters was particularly bad, and only a couple of notches above SD resolutions. Yet the only way to tell is to check online, as as far as the companies are concerned if it's upscaled to 1080p, it's 1080p. Of course, by that logic any old DVD playing back on the PS3 is 1080p if you're using an HDMI cable, which is ridiculous.

I think Call of Duty 4 runs at 640p or something equally low, and it's just upscaled so that they can claim 1080p.

Progressive is accually better than interlaced. The cheaper TV only supports 720p. Go with the full HD to get the most out of Blue Ray. As for games which run 1080p there are a few like NBA The Inside, GT.

Now thats interesting. I remember 2 years ago when the HD buzz first kicked off, people said the 360 sucked because it didn't support 'full HD' yet most games apprently don't support it even now. If what you said is true, then getting a full HD would be over-kill.

As for the Blu Ray thing... from what I've read, due to the way most movies are shot using HD cam's and encoded to the disc, then read by the player there is very little difference in 1080i and 1080p...

Got to say guys, I'm loving this topic... It's interesting to find out of this technically stuff.

The supported resolution on the box only means that it upscales to 1080p, not that it renders at 1080p.

I have a Samsung LE32 which only runs at 720 but it's still awesome. I read on a tech site that if the screen isn't bigger than 40inches the human eye can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080.

Here's the thread where a bunch of guys keep track of this (remarkably geeky) stuff:

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?t=46241

It's especially interesting because Microsoft touted full HD (720P in their case) requirements for their games anda lotof them are getting by with upscaled resolutions. Sony claimed 1080p games when they launched, and almost none of them are actually 1080p.

It becomes annoying when even the boxes can't be trusted, as they simply say the upscaled resolutions and expect people to take them at face value. If Blu-rays did the same thing when listing 1920x1080 resolution movies there would be far more people complaining.

I mean, I don't have a problem with games running at lower resolutions, but I wish they'd be a bit more honest about it.

Thats rubbish. Pretty much everything on 360 is 720i... with only a couple of Multiplatform games being 1080. From what I've lernt games are the same res no matter what console you play it on. Besides I have a 360. I never play it because the PS3 is better in pretty much all aspects except online.

PS3 - 2.0 Billion Pixels/sec (8 ROPS x 2 Samples x 500MHz / 4)

PS3 - 8.4 GB/sec (with 12.4 GB/sec subtracted for frame buffer)

Shader Model
Xbox 360 - Shader Model 3.0 / Unified Shader Architecture
PS3 - Shader Model 3.0 / Discrete Shader Architecture

XBOX360 has better graphics with smoother frame rate and this is natural, because it has better graphics card.
PS3 has only a stronger CPU but the graphics doesn't depend much in the power of CPU rather than the power of GPU.
Just think about, when you see on your PC than a game doesn't run normally, what upgrade is more preferable? What will you change? It's CPU for a stronger one, ore the GPU? Will you change the 2-core CPU for a 4-core for example, or the graphics card?
The answer is obvious.

The XBOX-360 is the best and the most powerful system. The END.

I've decided to go with this one. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001TUYQ46/ref=s9_simz_gw_s0_p23_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=08Q4TBW6BT5XENG5A3HK&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294 Hopefully more games will be full HD in the future. From the looks of things most PSN games are 1080... might be time to finally get Flower...

[QUOTE="Panosola"]If you want games on 1080 get the XBOX-360.Most of the games on the PS3 run on 720.The Prototype on the XBOX-360 it can play on 1080 and all the games on the XBOX can be play on the 1080i or 1080p.The PS3 is a weak system the XBOX is more powerful system and all the games look better. That is why i like more my XBOX.Panosola

It's just a simple question and I'm just curious, if you support Xbox 360 that much, why are you here ? It's only question. Not saying you can't be here or anything. I just want to know. :)

Ironically, I just got a 40' toshiba LCD 1080p from bestbuy last weekf(Stunning...that's all I can say)I'm not sure which PS3 games run 1080p, but just as someone else said go with the 1080p(future proof) I got the 40RV52R...which model are you looking to get???

ultralesus

I've decided to go with this one. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001TUYQ46/ref=s9_simz_gw_s0_p23_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=08Q4TBW6BT5XENG5A3HK&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294 Hopefully more games will be full HD in the future. From the looks of things most PSN games are 1080... might be time to finally get Flower...

It's almost Identical to mine, go to bestbuy's website and read the reviews..75 out of 86 where positive. The only flaw with it is the sound quality(which can be corrected with a sound system)but the picture quality is breath taking.

Yeah this Toshiba has revieved mostly poitive reviews. The selling point for me was Game Mode feature which the cheaper didn't have... Models in the XV Series have an exciting new feature for the gamers amongst you - Game Mode. This feature is designed to enhance the gaming experience by ensuring the best possible aspect ratios and response time of the television to the gaming console. Game Mode bypasses much of the picture processing technology required to enhance TV programmes and films, resulting in an improved response time and screen refresh rate.
