Def Jam Rapstar - October 5, 2010 - Are you going to get it?

It's basically a better looking version of Get on Da Mic for PS2. It comes out October 5, 2010. I think I will give it a try, it looks fun.

I will have to say no.

I'd like to say, as an audio professional for the last 25 years, that the business of "cupping" the mic (balling one's fist around the windscreen like all "good" rappers do) is showing one's ignorance for how a mic works. "Cupping" changes the tone quality of a mic, and makes the performer sound like he/ she is on an AM radio (it cuts the mids and lows).

Rap culture has done performers a tremendous disservice by doing this in videos and live performance. Snoop Dog's engineer tricked Snoop into giving up this idiotic practice by making his special mic gaurd (a leaf from a certain plant) so that he would keep his hand down on the body of the mic where it belongs, making Snoop's shows sound good again.

All you future rappers/ MCs take note: "Cupping" a mic shows your ignorance of technology AND makes you sound unintelligible (aka BAD) - "Cupping" the cheap mic that will be used with this game may cause the game to score you inaccurately. Proper mic technique will get you a lot farther in real life as well as this game. Pass it on.
