I dont get it though...how the hell do they expect people to actually find the Cure through a PS3 it doesnt make any sense... Zigmond1
heres the simple answer. Proteins Fold and When they fold wrong, diseases form such as cancer, alzeihmeirs and the like. The mathematical equations would take forever by hand, and even for one pc to handle not jsut that but theres lots and lots of proteins to calculate and different formulas come out all the time on how to calculate them
Folding@home links everyones PS3, PC, or whatever they make it for and runs these calculations really really fast and sends the data back to standford to study teh results. Teh more we know about how these diseases form, the more we know on how to stop them.
I just got my PS3 a few days ago. I took the time out to learn about this project. However, to my understanding this program runs in the background on the PS3.. Does this thing suck up resources? I would like to know before I actually install it on my black beauty.

It only runs when ur ps3 is idle, therefore it doesn't suck up resources because the resources are not being used for anything else. it doesn't run in the background like say, background downloads.
I have it on both my pc and ps3. I notice that on my computer it says it will take roughly 104 days to complete one protein while on my ps3 it will only take 8 hours!!! That's crazy, my computer isn't even that old.

 It doesn't run in the backround. If you are "Folding" thats all you can do. you have to quit folding in order to play games, movies, music, exc.... Â
