After watching The Dark Knight Rises I am suddenly craving a Batman game and thanfully we have two amazing games, but I have a question. Before I play Arkham City should I play Arkham Asylum or does it not matter?

It's not necessary, but you totally should play Arkham Asylum before hand. Game is amazing.

Definitely start with Asylum and get the full Arkham experience in order.

Arkham City is definitely a much better game in terms of mechanics, so I would suggest you play Asylum first, so you can enjoy the progression of the series. Both are amazing games, so I definitely suggest playing both. Plus the story will make a little more sense that way.

Don't skip over Arkham Asylum, it's the better game.

I would recommend playing Asylum first, without a doubt.

It's not just a matter of getting the full story, its also about gameplay progression. In AA you pretty much start with nothing and build up your gadets and move list from there. In AC you start with basically everything you finished AA with and you build up from there.

Arkham City is a 'bigger and better' version of Asylum, with more freedom, better riddles, more stuff, and generally more to do and see, however I think the more structured way Asylum was put together made for a better story and more developed characters. Plus some of the stuff in Asylum was just way cooler. (Scarecrow!)

Put them both together, and you got the ultimate Batman experiance, and two of the overall best games of this gen.

I definitely would suggest playing Arkham Asylum before Arkham City, both fantastic games.

Agreed with the fellow posters saying to play Asylum first. However, I would recommend Lego Batman 2, the girlfriend and I are having a really fun time playing it if you want something different.:P

Yes. Not only is it cheap, it is amazing. There is a drought for the next month and this is the best way to spend it, gaming-wise. Both are amazing games. I can see how you'd want to get the mediocre taste of TDKR out of your mouth but that's another discussion :P

If you play Arkham City first then decide to go to Arkham Asylum it would be a massive downgrade. Both games are amazing but you should play them in the correct order to avoid that problem.

it's not necessary, but it is a great game, wouldn't say one is better than the other, both solid 8/10's
