The XMB runs at 1080P but when i run COD4 it will switch to 720p and on the back of the box of COD4 it says it can run at 1080P. I unchecked 720P in the display settings of the ps3 and COD4 runs at 1080P. Does anyone know why COD4 switches to 720P and does everyone else have the same problem?

It's not a problem, CoD4's default resolution setting is 720p on any HDTV (providing it's 720 and up). The game is capable of 1080p but not at default. You have to set the PS3 resolution output at strictly 1080p and nothing else if you want that for games that are 1080p capable.

Its a pain in the butt to have to switch between the video settings for different games. Just let the games play at their native res's (600p in CoD4's case) and be done with it.

CoD4's box LIES.

Yeah it's all about default settings. But really I doubt you could tell that much of a difference anyway, most articles I've read about the issue say some games actually look better running at their default 720 res.

True, depends on the size of your HDTV too, 50" and under, you can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080P.

Yup this is the truth. I hope Sony gives us the feature of not having to go through this hassle in a future firmware update.

forced upscaling.. you uncheck all the resolution option exept 1080P.

it's a 640P native game that you need to force upscale

Yes, I have to uncheck 720p and 1080i in order to play it at 1080p.... If I left it at just 1080p, there are some games that not support 1080p what goes directly to 480p so when I played those games I have to check 720p and then uncheck it if I want to play COD4 again. It is a frustrating issue....

COD4 seems to look a bit better at 1080p. But minor difference.
