No. Common computer viruses are targetted at the Windows operatiing system. so the PS3 is safe.

it's kinda like how people don't attack mac. too much work for a much smaller population than windows

It's nearly impossible to develop a hack for the PS3, let alone hack it. Plus, Sony constantly updates. It's possible to hack the PS3, just I don't think anyone would spend the time to do so and the only way to get a virus on the PS3 is through external memory transfer.

I personally think that the developer of Windows release a good number of these viruses just before the next version is released. As for the PS3 getting a virus the chances are very very slim of the PS3 getting a virus.

Without getting into very detailed descriptions, the PS3 can get a virus, but it is rendered ineffective and removed once the system is shut off. There is a large archistructural difference between a gaming OS and a computing OS. I'm not entirely sure, but I believe all PS3's are based on it's own OS, although Linux is capable of being ran off your HDD; Viruses, Malware, Torjan's etc, are all based off of a .exe file, hidden or activated by your unwary hand in search of pron. So when an .exe is found on the PS3, it'll look at the file, not know what the hell it is, and discard it because it is unuseable. Since Linux viruses are few and far between (as well as designed to infiltrate servers mainly) I doubt you'd ever come across one without searching for it. The only way I would suspect a virus to get onto your machine would be through the use of homebrew mods (I.E. software emulation for other platform's games) and receiving a file made to run under this application to delete your HDD without your permission. Otherwise, until gaming systems become 1:1 with computers, it will be a long time until viruses are common much like they are on the Windows OS.

Someone once told me that as long as there are 1's and 0's then it will be cracked.

I dont think this is even possible. PSN is proteced by Sony (I think) and it would be too much work anyway. More people use Windows and Antivirus programs destroy almost all viruses without a problem.

Never say never... I don't care if you think you know everything, someone else will know more than you. And it doesn't matter if it takes too much time, what do you think these hackers do it? Some for the joy, some for the challenge.

Electronic companies like Apple do this all the time so they could see how secure there machine is from hackers then they ask the hackers how they hacked it, update the software and usiaully end up offering the hacker a job working for them.
