Some guy wanted to test the security of the PS3, so he made a contest. He left his PS3 on for 2 months straight while running linux and challened hackers to hack it. Who ever managed to hack it would get a free PS3. After hundreds of attempts no one could hack it after 2 months. 2 things are amazing about this 1. The PS3 did not overheat after being left on for 2 months straight running linux 2. The PS3 is a pretty much hacker proof as a server. So in answer to your question, no you cannot get a virus on your PS3.

Well, technically I think any kind of computer system (video games systems are computer systems) can get a virus, I just don't know what the chances are for the video game systems.

I would say that after the system has been out for awhile people will find a way to destroy the fun of others.  Always happens.

i would suspect that if non stop attempts at hacking into the ps3 for 24hrs a day for 2 months straight by hackers around the world

i dont think that is something to worry about in the forseeable future

Viruses use .exe files to install themselves and infect a computer. From what I have heard, the PS3 cannot read .exe files. Therefore, no your PS3 cannot get a virus. Unless you have a Operating System installed.

I wouldn't worry because the PS3 has made it imposible to pirate games on the system. The cell has one SPU dedicated to the system and that's one thing that has to be hacked before doing anything else. There are also a few other features that makes hacking the PS3 imposible to hack for now.

NO As with any hardware and software that is connected to a network, the PlayStation 3 can also be prone to malicious attacks when connected to a network. However, Sony has not received any reports of such attacks to the PlayStation 3. Sony does not recommend installing any software that is not authorized by Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) as they may contain viruses and can cause damage to your system. If you have concerns of malicious attacks, you may wish to verify the firewall capabilities of your network with the network administrator, person who set up your network, or your Internet Service Provider. Sony also recommend installing a firewall program between your Internet router and your PlayStation 3, in addition to regularly updating your virus definition files. Also, they recommend that you always keep your PlayStation 3 updated with the latest system software.

no because if u are running on the original PS3 OS it will not be compatible just like when u buy a MAC a lot of the viruses on PC don't work on a MAC
