yes they may be 2 very different games, but the hype surrounding these 2 games are incredible, with call of duty already out and still selling. FF13 is a very hyped game to, do you think FF13 can beat Modern Warfare 2 in sales?

It depends on if you're talking worldwide or US or what...But I still don't think it's possible for two reasons: 1) RPGs have a limited appeal compared to FPSs 2) Sold on fewer number of systems (no PC)

No, FFXIII doesn't appeal to the lowest common denominator like CoD:MW2 does.

No, because MW2 is more popular with the kids that won't shut up online than a deep JRPG that actually involves a lot of thinking.

I'm a huge FF fan and no I don't think FF13 will match COD's sales....and I can't stand COD. It's just that CoD is appealing to the growing mass market of new gamers. FPS games are probably the most common genre at the moment. FF13 is appealing to RPG fans, a minority in this modern gaming era.

It'd be nice if anything other than a shooter could sell well these days.

No way. *puts analyst hat on* I think it'll innitially sell about 4-5 million copies (roughly 2 in Japan) in its release time-frame. Over time, it'll go on to sell a couple millions more (with platinum/greatest hits/the best editions), but MW2 has so much popularity not only among the core demographic that it'll easily outsell even the most popular JRPG series.

whats final fantasy? just kidding. but seriously thats what most of the ppl i knows reply would be that play CoD on a regular basis. games like CoD are more for casual gamers. you can just sit down and run n gun for a cpl hrs and leave satisfied. whereas ff will consume your nights for months on end and require more thought than should i frag or melee.

With amount of money that MW2 spent on advertising I don't think so. Most companies are smarter and spend their money making the game the best and a good length. MW2 thinks spend money on hype and throw a 4-5hrs game with on-line.

Of course not. The number 13 would scare people into not buying it. :P

It has nothing to do with "requiring more thought" because lets face it, its not like FF stories are very convoluted and confusing, they're one cliche after another (although many of us still love them either way), but its a matter of preference. If FPS games were the only winning market then why do companies still even bother making RPGs? the FPS market is the biggest one today but RPGs are hardly the minority because companies keep pumping out one RPG after another -- I'd say of any upcoming RPG, FFXIII has a chance to be in the upper echelon in RPG sales but unfortunately CoD MW2 is too big a competitor to compare it to.
