For those of you who have not played the game it says the recommended way is to play "with the lights off and your headphones in" and I think it's pretty damn scary to be honest haha I know I sound like a poon but it's true and don't try to deny it. I want everybody who hasn't tried it to do so....and that means no lights, no tv, no stuffed animals to grip tightly as you walk through the halls of Alchemilla Hospital haha but seriously try it, it's pretty fun, and give me some feedback cuz I wanna know that i'm not wuss for thinking it's creepy as hell....

Yeah that's really the only way to play it if your looking for the full experience-- quiet, dark, and with headphones plugged in them ears. That said I didn't find to be a really scary experience. Compared to the second one I didn't have them, jump out of your chair moments, but I did get startled a few times. Mainly from them dang flashback audio recordings that just come out of no where. And the occasional nurse waiting on the other side of the door. :P

Yes and I did it that way for the most part. Of course, I'm ready for anything after Siren for PS2.

Played through it with TV out cables and no lights. :)

Not really a "jump" game like RE, but there were a few scary parts. Nothing like walking into a room and coming face to face with a nurse or two.

***SPOILER***

Travis's mom creeped me the hell out as well. Great atmosphere for that boss fight..

Playing this way , provides you the same experience while playing SH 2 on your pc. It's much scarier that way...

lol this game is just too messed up for me to play it the recommended way. the drum beats when it picks up in the "other" world is crazy. the pipe clanking sounds and everything. i played it a while the recommended way and then switched to my own way which is using full room lights, and a walkthrough guide to read ahead of time what to expect LOL. oh ya don't even bother name calling me. i am in no way a horror fan. did enjoy the game though.

Somehow the small screen limits my ability to be drawn into the game. For that reason Origins is probably the tamest of the bunch for me. I tend to get more sucked in when playing games on the TV.
Playing with the lights off and the headphones in definately enhances the experience, though.

I do play in the dark, but I always set the brightness on the actual game higher than it tells me too. That's more so because I can't stand not being able to see, part of the game or not, lol.

I tend to try and play all Silent Hill games in the dark and if they are on home consoles then with the volume up high. Only Silent Hill that "scared" me was SH3. Origins was kinda laking in that department.

I did this and I must admit the general sound of SH games get me. I was playing Homecoming on the 360 and it did the saem but for some reason playing it on the PSP with head phones in depsite being on a tiny screen did make me feel a lot more uneasy. I did have to look about a few times.

The first time that I played this game I was on aholiday, so I didnt even have any tv or lights in my tent xD So yeah, I had to use my headset and played in complete darkness. It really freaked me the f*** out sometimes. Although I had a playtime of little more then 4 hours on my first playthrough, it took me a total of 1 week or something to compleet it cuz most of the time I was too scared to continue after playing for 45min to an hour. But seriously this game is freakin good, after my first playthrough I knew what to expect and completed it another 3 times to get the rest of the endings. When I got back from my holiday I ordered Silent Hill Homecoming right away and I've completed it 5 times already. Origins just got me hooked to Silent Hill games and the Survival Horror genre.I mean seriously... every PSP owner should try this game out.

I'm also getting Siren: Blood Curse in the mail tomorow, hope it will be scary :P

YEAAAAAY!!! I finally got this game before leaving on a road trip and I am ASTOUNDED at how good it is!!! Headphones and a dark hotel room, and I'm actually edgy while playing it... fantastic graphics, and that signature "Silent Hill" creepiness. I could not be happier about owning this and I'm never trading it in. A TRUE PSP gem. Can't wait for the new one to come out.

Wow, wow, WOW.

Sure, it's "derivative" gameplay, sure it's "nothing new"... but what's here should make ANY fan of exploration/ survival horror smile!!! The sound is excellent, voice acting is right-on, and it keeps you guessing constantly. What's not to love?

By "recommends that" I assume you mean playing with headphones on and lights out... ever bother to boot up the game, or are you just a troll? It's the first thing the game tells you to do, so it's not "Fan-based drivel", it's actually IN THE GAME. Investigate before you open you non-McDonalds eating mouth and start bandying cultural insults around, sunshine.

Don't say such things without even doing some research.. it's in the game, after the PSP logo..

Back on topic, I did play it the recommended way, but It was not that scary, it created a great atmosphere (nothing compared to Silent Hill 2, but oh well), and made the game more fun to play.

Apparently Silent Hill's 'useless fanbase' is more observant, seeing as how we can notice the first info screen that blatantly pops up every time you load the game.

That's the best way to play any horror game. If you don't you're doing it wrong :P. Origins wasn't all that creepy compared to some of the other games in the series, but the flashback sequences with Travis' mum sure did freak me out.

Yeah it's just not effective enough if survival horrors aren't played in the dark with a decently high volumn.

I do it all the time when I play a horror game except without the head phones on.

I've only done it a few times with the headphones but I don't really like headphones lol.

I cottoned to wearing 'phones playing a lot of FPS, and some games have such great sound work that your ears become just as important for zeroing in on a potential target as your eyes, more-so, even... now I just wear them to appreciate how well the sound people have done their job on a game.

:D

I love horror games... the original SH on PSN is just as great as I remember it, too... a definite purchase if you never played it the first time around or if you just want to go back to where it all confusingly began!

Yeah , having PH chasing you in the labyrinth, in SH 2 was the definition of horror...But the flashbacks in Origins really made up for the absence of such moments...

Yeah no doubt it's a scary game. Though I found SH 1, 2, and 3 to be scarier. :P

The flashbacks definitely caught me off guard. Oh and there's this glitch where you can see the inside of Travis's head and see his eyeballs.. creepy stuff.
