I was wondering, on the PS3 80 gig model, when you play a PS2 game do you need a memory card to save it or will it save to the harddrive?

You can create an internal PS2 memory card under the games section of the XMB I think.

The PS3's that support PS2 games you create a internal virtual memory card. I have several of these already on my 60 gig system.

How does that work? Is it as simple as putting a PS2 game in and it working or do you have to make it somehow, then put the game in to play and be able to save it?

Set it up before you play the game. I'm fairly sure that the how-to is detailed in the PS3 manual.

Just go to games in the XMB and go to memory card utility. You can create the internal memory card there.
