The reason you see no difference is because every game that has 1080i is just upscaled from 720p. So, they're actually exactly the same.

well, you can actually enable the ps3 "to not" upscale it to 1080i. still no difference. not sure for Movies w/c one is better.

Gaming: 720p. Just looks brighter and more vibrant.

Movies: 1080i but 720p is not much worse. In fact, I just leave my TV on 720p.

Planet Earth FTW!

1080p > 720p > 1080i.

There, probably broke it down for you there. I've seen this question countless times.

All in all its your true resolution that counts. It's like changing the resolution on your computer. It just makes stuff to a different scale and in doing so, helps make graphics appear much more detailed. Also decreases the amount of Jaggies you see.

Yeah, I made the links in my first post up there, but everyone feels compelled to ignore the easy way out and help this guy anyways.:|

it depends on what you are watching.1080i is good for slow moving pictures like movies, fasting moving pictures and games will favor 720p

Same thing as I have said in everyone of this threads. Your tv is either 720p or 1080i (since it isn't 1080p) and will accept both formats and display one. Whatever you pick the ps3 to output is NOT what will be shown. Your tv will display the format it is natively (CAN'T display another format just accepts it and converts it...).

Yes the ps3 MAY be better at converting than your tv, but should be a minor difference if any

720p is better. because 1080i is interlaced 1080i=540p. and 540p

Depends on the TV. smaller than 40" 720p will be the way to go. If you own an LCD TV, interlaced is not the best option. 1080i was very blurry when I was playing oblivion, vs the crisp 720p. Its all about how progressive scan is better suited to LCDs than interlaced.
