Final Fantasy should be there, because of the time they manage to be successfull and still around making big hits, but recently I found RPG just boring, je je
GTA definetly. The sense of humor, characters, and the story always make the games worth running through. I would also add the Xenosaga series, even though I didn't particularly like the game play. The story and characters were well worth the play through (even though they changed the voices).
Of the ones listed, I'd say God of War, since both games are solid titles. GTA3 is one of the most amazing and solid first-generation games available for the PS2 (The X-Box and PC versions have some nice graphical upgrades to them, as well.). Vice City was not bad at all and a nice follow-up, but San Andreas was a bit too tasteless and fan-oriented (I think it was 2002 that I predicted that Rockstar would make at least one GTA game start an African American gang member. I'm still a bit shocked at how right I was.) The helicopters and whatnot were fine in Vice City, but the commercial airlines, parachuting, and Pilotwings-Inspired jetpack were a bit too much. San Andreas just strayed too far from the series' roots. Devil May Cry would have been my pick if it weren't for DMC2, but it definitely gets second place. DMC and DMC3 are amazing PS2 games and well worth the effort. Ratchet & Clank would have been good if Insomniac did more with the series. I gave Going Commando the ok since it was extremely fun. When Up Your Arsenal came along, everything felt too familiar and overdone (Recycling the same graphics engine with a few slight adjustments didn't make things any better.). Don't get me wrong, though. These are all good series. I just like to explain myself.
In terms of gameplay and story, it's definitely Metal Gear for me.
However, in terms of sheer shock value, I'm going to go with the Kingdom Hearts series.
Seriously, was anyone expecting the secret unlockable video in KH2 to be like that?! That got me excited like nothing else... which is somewhat pathetic to be honest.
