is it better if the ps2 disc speed setting is set to high and texture setting to smooth instead of normal?

Just leave it alone...  No one plays the PS2 nowadays looking for good graphics, just leave it on default.

I think it's supposed to affect PS1 games only.

Yes It does not seem to effect the ps2 game at all... it must be only the ps1 games
