Hi dudes!

Recommend me empire building strategy games. For long time I had been playing games such as Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Battle for Middle-Earth etc etc etc - but for now I wan´t just built a nice Empire. Of course there CAN be troops and the army side in the game, but a possibility to choose just building an empire.

For a couple of days I have been playing Caesar III - which is very good.

What´s your opinion? What´s the best empire building game? Why?

Thanks a lot :)

I can't remember the name of the game, but there was an Ancient Egypt based game that came out with solid city-building a few years back, I think it was called....Nile?

Edit: Children of the Nile

I would get Medieval: Total War. You can build a huge empire by conquering other countries with your armies that you control yourself. Its AWESOME!

Yeah, Ancient Cities: Children of the Nile descends from the Caesar and Pharaoh series of PC games. I think Medieval: Total War may be too army-based, if you are looking for a city builder. You could always go back to SimCity? Also, the Stonghold series has modes where they allow you to concentrate on your castle and your economy, rather than military encounters.

Pharaoh and Master of Olympus: Zeus are good city building games, although both have warfare to some extent and are slightly outdated in graphic standards.

Civilization games have been a highlight in games revolve around empire building.

civilization 4 and the expansions. AMAZING game. One of the best strategy titles ever made. A little slow paced, but the empire building is absolutely addicting/super fun and VERY in depth.

It was called Pharaoh and the greek spin off was called Zeus. Also there is Caesar. Caesar is the most popular one because Pharaoh and Zeus do not have sequels but Caesar does.

Great answers from all of you guys!

Total War series games are too much war based - but I will remember them... after my empire building phase

civilization 4 and the expansions. AMAZING game. One of the best strategy titles ever made. A little slow paced, but the empire building is absolutely addicting/super fun and VERY in depth.IMaBIOHAZARD
I will look for this. I think it´s on "take three, pay for two" campaign sale in my local GameStop :D

But what about the prequels in the serie? Which the best one? (I´m thinking about the third one...)

Pharaoh and Master of Olympus: Zeus are good city building games, although both have warfare to some extent and are slightly outdated in graphic standards.

Kolossi

Graphichs doesn´t mean anything. If the game is good, it´s good without super hyper ultra blaster graphics. That´s 110 % true and that´s why I´m not bothered when playing games such as Age of Empires (I & II), Empire Earth, Caesar III, Starcraft etc etc...

Master of Olympus looks interesting - I will check it out if I can find it.

Caeser III, Zeus and Pharaoh are the best empire building games I've played. Caeser IV and Glory of Roman Empire are good. but some stuff are kinda unusual. Like you dont need roads to every structure u build.. Zeus is the best of all.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri beats the Civilization series, tbh. I just started playing it a few months back, and it surpasses all other TBS games in complexity, depth, interesting subject matter, voice acting, those lovely quotes with each research topic, characters, etc.

Right on! Alpha Centauri was way better than Civs. It's ashame that the expansion never went far.

Another great empire building game would be Sins of a Solar Empire.

The best empire building game is the one i've been fantasizing about in my head for years, pity it's probably still too far ahead of its time to be developed in any practical sense.

This.

Sins of a Solar Empire is pretty good if you want something a bit faster paced.
