Maybe someone can answer me. I want to built pc mainly for work and a bit of gaming. Work is rendering a lot and moving complicated object through space. and i was wondering price/performance wise which of the QX6700 kentsfield and XEON woodcrest would be the best suited for my situation. I searched a lot but they rarely show information comparing these 2 as they both come from the same compagny and are in different category in a way.

I would really appreciate if someone could answer this

Thank you

Xeon is s server CPU and QX6700 is a desktop version. I suggest the QX6700 over the Xeon X5355. Not saying people dont have Xeon setups, but stick with the desktop version.

Yeah I would stick with the desktop version as well. How much does a XEON run anyway? Also I'm not sure about overclocking on a server processor either, we know the QX6700 can overclock past 3.5GHz and the multipliers are unlocked.

dude it will offer you alot of performance. Its an excelllent CPU, and you will not see a slow down. IF you ever do, just overclock, these CPUs are hitting 3.4-3.6Ghz on a good board and good aftermarket aircooling. But I doubt you will need to, Remember you doing intense work, grab the RAM and the QX6700 and you wont be unhappy. My buddy does a lot of desiging and editing, hes running a E6700 @ 3.0Ghz and hes having no slowdowns, hes on 4gb too.

Yeah again, stick with the QX6700, the XEON is mainly server-based. As for being able to do what you want, yes, it's a pwerful processor, and it's great, you won't be dissapointed...

The QX6700 is probably one of the best processors you can have for work right now, video editing, photo editing, 3D rendering, the more threads the better. This processor is probably the best for a single processor setup at the moment.
