My CPU is a AMD Athlon X2 4800+. I've been wanting to get a new video card because my 7900GTX just isn't cutting it anymore and I think its actually somewhat defective. I was gonna grab a 8800GT but my question is would my CPU have problems running a 8800GT? Should I go for it? Thanks.

Nope, your cpu is great. Go for the card.

I have the 4800+ with 8800gt, 2gb and xp. I actually just upgraded from a 7900gtx.

I had a savepoint in Bioshock where I had 27fps maxed at 1280x960. With the 8800gt I got 67fps.

HL2 ep2 had a similar increase as well.

UT3 gained about 15fps.

In Crysis I was able to go from all medium at 1024 to all high at 1600x1200 with the same fps. Unfortunately the game gets more demanding later on and I'm about to give up and either wait for a patch, better drivers or an upgrade down the road.

Going from 1600x1200 all high to 1024x768 all on low, I only get a 7fps increase in Crysis.

The best way to guage whether the upgrade is worth it is todrop the res and quality settings in the games you play.If you see big gains then it means you're gpu limited and the upgrade will help.

Yes it will if its running at stock. I think the 3870 would be a better buy& save you some cash too. The 3870 is cooler, quieter & draws less power, but nearly as fast. Its the better buy.

Ah nuts to that I'll just upgrade later on. I don't want to go with a lesser GPU. I'll get a 8800 GT now, then in a bit this:

then a little while after that a second 8800 GT :D

Depends on the game, on some an X2 would definitely bottleneck the 88GT.
