it will fit, just make sure your power supply is good enough. If it is less than 350w then you will probably need a new one.

I had a problem fitting in a 7900GT KO due to the northbridge hsf getting in the way. Make sure it has enough space. I had it RMA'd like a few weeks ago because mine was one of the batch of faulty cards of the series and will receive a 7900GTO tomorrow, same size of the 7900GTX with the 85mm fan but runs at lower memory clocks, but it can be flashed to a GTX.

If you haven't read about this I suggest you do:

That HP case will be tight with it in there, also make sure you have a good PSU. If you dont mind, you can drop to a 7900gt, it consumes less power and also is a smaller card. It will also max out 1280x1024 no problem. I suggest waiting another month for nVidia to release there Dx10 cards, as Dx9 cards will drop in price, but also the price for performance off the new nVidia cards are great.

The 8600GT will definately fit, the mid-range line of cards were never really huge, and probably won't require an extra power connector to connect to your PSU because it consumes less power.
