Well widescreen is the definatefor dvds seeing as the bottoms won't be blacked out. As for gaming I have no Idea. If your computer is good enough use both.

I think for 19" 4:3 aspect ratio is better than widescreen. At 19" the monitor is just too small to be stretched. To me, it looks like a smaller monitor because it is so short. But for larger monitors, widescreen is definitely better.

Use the widescreen for both because it is becoming very popular since Windows Vista came out and, by the way what's your resolution?

I recently picked up a 19" 4:3 Hanns-G monitor, I love it, I game at 1280x1024 so it's perfect. 19" widescreens just don't look right to me, if I picked up a widescreen it'd have to be bigger then 19" for gaming.

I have a 15.4" 1280x800 widescreen laptop and a desktop with a 20" screen with a 1680x1050 resoultion, (wide of corse). I'm never going back to a standard screen again. Great for games, movies, and anything else.

Widescreen for monitors larger than 20"

For smaller monitors, it's hip to be square.

I recently bought a 20" widescreen and have been very pleased with it. I would say anything larger then 20" go for a widescreen and anything less than square. I was hesitant at first to go widescreen, because I didn't know how many games supported widescreen, but to my surprise almost all of my games do support widescreen monitors.
