I know, the new ones coming out next week but i was really curious, 4850 which is 2 years old and gts 250 which is about the same both offer best bang for buck right now, while ones like 5750 and 460 have been claimed to be a better buy, i don't get why they can't make a better price performance gpu, and the 4850 pretty still can do a lot of stuff

Or is it because those gpus prices have been dropping a lot

Or is it because new ones go for performance while hitting a price "sweet spot"

If I was to buy a card right now (but I'll wait instead) it would be a 5850.

Where do you get those graphs from???

If I was getting a card now, it would definitely be the GTS 250.

I do not run a resolution over 1280*1024, unless the game is old.

LOL at tomshardware saying a 5830 and gtx 768mb are tied. Maybe reference models but the super clocks (which sell lower then 5830's), destroys 5830's in any benchmark.

EVGA GTX 460 768 mb Super clock for 169.99. Just don't see how a 5830 matches to this. Its pretty much the best bang for the buck followed by a gtx 460 (depending what resolution you game at)

Well overclocking makes quite a difference and you can't compare stock with overclocked model. Grab a overclocked 5830 and then compare them.

Overclocking is different to buying a OC model. Comparing price to price, 5830 just can't compete. I Always compare base on price to performance. In this regard, a 5830 simply cannot keep up with the nvidia side. Now once these new AMD cards release and possibly we see price drops to lower model 5850's dropping down then we will have something. Right now, if you somewhere in the $150-200 range, the gtx 460 768mb is the place to go. Even the standard editions of the 768mb beats a 5830 in 90% of test from almost every review site out.

I currently have 2 different PC's - 1 running a GTS 250 with 1GB with an average resolution of 1768x992 (AA depending on the game) - 1 running a GTS 250 with 512MB at 1600x1200 (AA depending on the game) and they both do an excellent job. As far as the topic is concerned - if I had been able to at the time, I would have chosen the 460 over the GTS 250 but for the money the GTS 250 is still a really nice card. With that said, now that the 460 is around 170, I'd say that's probably it.
