Why is the Crysis demo a slideshow? (DX9, low settings, still unplayable)

system doesn't start to struggle/heat up or anything, it's just when the game loads it becomes a fast slideshow. Using DX9 instead of 10 didn't seem to do anything. FPS was better changing from high to low settings but still unplayable

what might the problem be? only other game I've tested is CSS which ran everything max except AA at about 100FPS or more.

I think your CPU might be bottlenecking your 9600GT.

no, the e4500 won't bottleneck it that much. Try install the demo again. Did you run 3dmark06? what is your score? if not run 3dmark06, if your gfx card has error it will show

No I played Crysis on low-medium @ 1024x768 with a sempron 3300+ 1.5 DDR, Geforce 7600GS AGP. Its not your CPU,What resolution you play at? anything above 1280x1024 for a 9600GT with crysis will strain it. Turn off AA, and are you running vista if you are you can lose 10 FPS compared to XP.

What is your 3dmark06 score with that system? I'm getting 10780 on the first run nothing tweaked or overclocked with Q6600 and 9600GT. You should be able to run on at least medium to high with that system. My X1950pro and Pentium managed crysis demo on low.

A common misconception. The 9600GT is about 90% as powerful as the 8800GTS 640mb. I used it in my rig for a few days (E6600 3GB DDR2) and I got 20-30fps at 1680x1050 on all high settings (no AA). The 9600GT is an absolute champ, so i'm not sure what his problem is. And vista does not take off "10 fps." That generic (and false) comment is rather aggrevating.

Im talking about Crysis, and its proven that Vista only increases performance with very few selected games with same hardware (no upgrades )

I Got The 8800 GTX Couple of days back and I'm getting Crisis game somewhere around this week so I really can't say any thing about that specific game however I'll tell I problem I had that is really not related to any fact in my opinion but it happened the first time I got my 8800 GTX I removed the driver for my old 7950 GT and removed the card and installed the new one then i installed the driver (I'm an experts since I've changed my VGA a lot of times) so after finishing i tried testing my Need For Speed ProStreet (Not That there will be any difference from my old VGA but just for the fun of it ) but every thing was a slideshow I Tried reinstalling the VGA Driver and updating DirectX but no use, the game was still slow even on low resulting and features disabled and it was working fully on the old VGA I even removed the VGA and Tried fixing it in the slot again but invain It' wasn't till I changed the VGA slot (My Motherboard has 2) till everything was back to normal Now I know this sounds weird and stupid but it happened and I even tried my old VGA again on the first slot and it worked Hope this could of some use to you

As for Vista i've been using it ever since it becomes available and i played Bioshock on It With Full Settings and i don't recall any problem i think Vista is even better packed OS the XP but that's just me

Thats true I switched between DX10 and DX9 in Vista with the exact same settings and I gained a much better FPS with DX9.

But you also probably were running it in DX10 mode even if you didn't have V.High settings on.

I cant believe that there is no straightforward way of playing crysis in DX9 in vista. So many people playing it in DX10 and basically missing out for nothing becasue they obviously are not aware of DX9 or DX10 as it doesnt say anything about it.Shame on crytek.

Vista being slow for games has nothing to do with this.

Well just right-clicking the game icon in the Games folder gives that option to play in either DX9 or DX10, but I hear what you are saying.

Yes what I am saying is that people should be able to know right off the bat that there is this massive performance effecting setting called DX9 and DX10 in vista.

It only gives a bad image to vista.
