Basically as you can see from my signature iam planning on building a rig in January and iam not sure whether to go for 32 or 64 bit vista. From the research i have done so far it seems that 64bit will be more future proof seeing as it can handle more than 2GB's or RAM.....but apparently it has some driver issues which may stop some programs from working with it. So any experience or advice would be very welcome.

Thanks guys :D

If your computer supports 64-bit processing, then why not exploit it? The 64-bit machines can still run the 32-bit programs, but it can also run in 64-bit when it can.

all i know is that 64 bit is even more buggy (crazy right?) then vista 32 bit as of now. it can be fixed in the future but they show no signs of a big fix anytime soon.

64 bit XP if you want the most preformance from your games right now.

64 bit Vista will look a little bit better with DX10 but will take an absolute beast of machine to run games at high end. 64 bit also supports more RAM, so you will actually get to use the 4gigs that you buy.

64bit is the future, it is faster, supports more ram, and generally better for gaming. Just make sure your hardware has drivers that support 64bit.

Be sure that you understand that Vista is a lot buggier than xp... A lot. Sure you will always find the people saying that all 30 games they run on vista run flawlessly and look better and run better but beware. If you read many tech sites theaverage opinionis that when Vista was released, and even now, it is in a beta state. DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT ....read as much info as you can.

64-bit definitely. No arguable reason to go for a 32-bit OS, especially when you are heading for Vista.

Easy, 64 bit version, because it can "SEE" more than 3gb of ram. Personally I have 8gb of ram on my Vista machine, and it runs games beautifully.

yes but in game you wont see a large difference even between a 1gig stick and 3gb stick for maybe another 3 years. there is no performnace increase with 64 bit anyways...but if its not going to burn your pocket then just go 64 bit..

People seem to forget that even if Vista 64-bit can "see" more than 4 GB ram, no 32-bit program (or any game currently out) can actually use that much so you'll only see any benefit if you have serveral memory-hungry programs running at the same time, at which point the CPU will probably become the most limiting factor.

I've seen no real performance increase in games going from a 32 bit OS to a 64 bit OS. Having a 64 bit OS with 4 Gb's of ram is just for bragging rights, I mean not even Crysis benefits from having more then2 GB's of ram and that game won't be surpassed in graphics for a long time.

A 32 bit OS is pretty safe and will remain the standard for at least 3 more years and as of right now it is not as buggy as 64 bit OS's. Also by 3-4 years you'll probably be making another computer anyway so might as well stick with something that is less buggy and is more widly supported.

64-bit. It is way more stable for me for some reason. The only copy of Vista that I ever had trouble with was 32-bit.

Funny you say that cause I used to have serious issues at times in XP and I have had not a single issue oddly enough in Vista Ultimate x64. I do alot of tweaking and whatnot and I would think I should have hit a snag along the line, but I haven't. My games run pretty much identical to the way they run in XP. I suppose the only thing I would say that is annoying is the fact that in order to enable EAX in some games in Vista I have to use that Alchemy app from Creative.

Most of the people who buy more than 4GB of memory are not doing it for gaming. They have other uses for that amount of memory. I personally use my extra memory for multitasking. I do alot of work with Adobe apps and it really is nice to couple a fast quad core with 8GB of memory. It makes everything so much easier and faster.
