It's kind of hard, the contrast ratio (richer blacks; best for dark movies and video)) on the LG is a little higher, but the colors (best for daytime video) on the Philips TV are higher the LG's. It just depends on what YOU prefer...

Neither. Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, or Toshiba for LCD's, or better yet get a similiarly size plasma from Panasonic or Samsung for a higher quality picture. Read the A/V thread past the first couple of pages and you will find a lot of info.
