My friends got me all paranoid about it a few weeks ago. I was wondering which one do you use.

I know a few already like Private internet access, Norton hotspot privacy, hotspot shield and proxpn.

Not sure exactly how it works, do you have to set up a vpn each time you boot your computer ? Once it's set up, does it connect automatically, how of an hassle the whole thing really is ? Is it even worth it to protect your personal data, because I know websites do their own protection also...

Thanks.

I've used several over the years. NordVPN is a very nice and user friendly experience. TorGuard is one that i used for a long time and it has a lot more setting to tweak, but overall the experience was good.

I'm currently using ProtonVPN. They are fairly new to the VPN game, but have a great reputation with their encrypted email service. I'm liking their VPN a lot so far. They have a free version to try if you wish. It's just an application that you download. You can configure them the way you want them to run. (auto connect on start up, etc.)

It's worth it to have, for peace of mind if nothing else.

I do it all the time, to watch US Netflix while in Australia (our Netflix is shit), try ExpressVPN.

Also looking at stealing (buying) Amazon Prime because our prices will be shit.

None. Totally useless to me. I love it when people go all paranoid about all their "important personal data" they want to protect at all costs and then they go and sign up for Amazon and Facebook and hand out all that information anyway.

Not always about protecting data, I use it for stealing (buying) Amazon Prime, I also use it for US Netflix, also use it to purchase overseas stuff and use a shipping forwarder because they refuse to sell the product.

I once got a letter in my email threatening me from some movie corporation in the united states claiming i downloaded a movie. It was a lie since i hadn't even heard of the movie but since that time i have no respect for any of these companies. My ISP didn't have a static IP address and its possible someone else had downloaded it and i got picked as the person. That type of false accusation made me so angry to get bullied by a faceless coward through an email. Love to see them come to my house and dare accuse me of this. Lets just say they wouldn't get more than 3 words out before they would be eating my fist.

Where is your imagination? did you lose it?

Step 1. Activate your VPN.

Step 2. Create a temp email account, there's hundreds if you just google it.

Step 3. Write an email (or if it was me, a few hundred, just copy/paste), the address is where you received the email from.

Step 4. (Only if you really want to annoy them) sign them up for lots of spam email.

Step 5. Laugh, mission accomplished.

@howmakewood: Hell yeah, Nord is awesome.

I used Tunnelbear for a while, but it's limited, doesn't let you use p2p software.

They're nice when you're on wifi that isn't yours. It's actually pretty easy to start packet sniffing, but the chance of someone doing it is obviously very low. But when all you have to do is press a button to turn the vpn on, it's not that big of a deal. Also if you torrent stuff, then obviously it's good to have.

Private internet access is what I'd recommend op.

And it's built into opera.

VPNs are not considered illegal in most countries when it is used for legal purposes and anyone can go ahead and start using a VPN service. The act of surfing through another IP is legal, and is something even the biggest companies in the world do all the time.

VPN allows you to gain additional security along with internet freedom, Surf using different IPs, Unlock websites and bypass filters.

I would prefer to use the following VPNs for a legal purpose.

  • TunnelBear
  • Windscribe
  • PureVPN
  • PrivateTunnel
  • Freelan

Same here. I rarely use VPN but, when I have to, it's just two clicks away.

Why Opera isn't more popular is completely beyond me. Opera has always been ahead of the curve.

I use cyberghost 6. It's free and works well. Plus it has a killswitch which means if your wifi ever drops, you wont be dropped from your VPN back to your regular wifi so you can be tracked. It will just turn your wifi off completely until your VPN reconnects. Don't know about its logs though.

It works like this.

You put vpn information in your programs you download with. And you set up a plugin in your chrome. that is basically a APP that switches your IP's around to whatever country you want. I currently connect through germany for example. But i can with the press of a button connect through any country to any website or what not.

Basically one time setup, you never have to look at it again. It's incredible easy.

They also offer a windows program that will lock even windows applications etc behind it.

Freedom back again.

A bunch of people I know use VPNs so they can play online Asian games that aren't available in the West or beacause the content updates for them come at a much later time to the West. There is also people from from some regions with crappy internet on games so they use VPNs to join better servers from other regions.

Windscribe. It comes with a free 10 GB allowance each month. It's the only reasonably fast VPN I've found so far.

I tried NordVPN, but it was way too slow.

Another good one is iVPN. Was super fast when I tried it, but it's also super expensive.

I get letters forwarded to me whenever I torrent something. But ISPs in most countries aren't allowed to give up your identity.
