I want to get into an MMO soon, but I'm having trouble finding the right one. I love sci-fi so I want to play EVE, but I hear it has a steep learning curve and is more like a 'job'. I heard WoW is fun, but I also heard there's too much grinding. So what's you guy's final say on what MMO I should try out?

Eve is the only pay 2 play MMO I have tried and I thought it was great, though I haven't gone back to it in a while. Tired a lot of free mmos but they are all pretty much garbage.

EVE is fun but it is hard not impossible but not hard theres a trial and its more then enough time to learn the game.

WoW is fun too but it cost over $100 dollars to get started buying all the expansions other then that yeah there is grinding.

Warhammer Online is fun but the fact that past lvl 11 there isn't much to do till you get to lvl 40 and you just grind grind grind.

Global agenda is a F2P its pretty fun to play its a B2P.

APB is going bankrupt.

I've probably tried every MMO under the sun and most of them are fun but have their flaws.

Right now I'm waiting for Guild Wars 2 and TERA those looks promising both come out next year.

GW2 is B2P and TERA is P2P

October_Tide

Yeah, right now EVE is a huge possibility. I think the people who say it's more like a job just haven't immersed themselves in the world, or don't like sci-fi

World of Warcraft and probably Planetside.

Guild Wars isn't an MMO btw. It's an online RPG.

WOW is fun but it easily gets boring. I like the idea of getting the emblems for gear but there is still something missing. They should split the gear on how to get it for example. Get 10 emblems of heroism and 10 frost to get the head armor. Then start off a chain of quests that leads to leg armor etc. The quests should be like complete an easy lvl 80 instance and bring me something and all the time progressing getting better gear and doing harder instances. Then move on to raid gear stuff.. Thats what i think anyway will be fun,

I've played LOTRO for over three years and am still quite enamoured with both the game and community.

The MMO that has been the most fun for me is Lord of the Rings Online - I am a tolkien fan and this game just speaks to me :) Fallen Earth is a pretty decent MMO (played in Beta and a bit after launch until their billing system screwed me out of my 30 days free time + 1 month of paid time [they have since worked out the quirks in the billing system but once burned twice shy]) and the sci-fi setting is decent. Guild Wars is pretty good, though it isn't near the top of my favourite MMO list. It doesn't have the ability to keep me engrossed. City of Heroes I still go back to off and on (going on 4 years now) and is good game. The recent updates have added lots of cool stuff, and the graphics engine was just updated to have an "Ultra" option (which allows people with better GFX cards to see some amazing shiny sparkly effects/textures).

Asheron's Call! :P But that game is too dated now.

I'd suggest checking out LOTRO this Friday. It goes Free To Play and you can try a lot of the game without spending a dime (though you'll eventually need to if you want the "full" experience).

City of Heroes is also fun, and they just released a new update recently. They also have a 7 day trial so you can get a feel for the game.

Like a lot of others, the MMO I'm most looking forward to is Guild Wars 2. But for now, I'll be playing LOTRO.

What? I remember setting it up for a friend of mine back in 2009 and with all the expansions it was about 35$ in total.

Really just find a CD key retailer.

I was spoiled with classic Everquest, there probably will never be another MMO that can deliver the experience that Everquest did back in the day. I expect more than what I get out of newer MMOS, they just seem too easy and full of little kids. I found the raids in WoW were boring the PVP un-balananced and the game doesnt required much skill at all to play when compared to Everquest IMO.

I find it hard to get into any new MMO nowadays because im always comparing to classic Everquest.

That wasn't hard, sure they sell gold on that website too, but buying a CD key is fully legit, atleast my friend had no trouble.

I would have to say WoW becouse its such a huge game that there is always someting to do and I never felt there was more grind than in other games. I can also say that WAR was great fun but...with the endless trial you are basically getting the most fun the game gets since the population is pretty low. Now I am playing Fallen Earth and I have to say the feeling of crafting things that are useful is a breath of fresh air.

$35 is maybe a bit of an exageration. You can get it pretty cheap though. http://www.offgamers.com $40.29 for Vanilla, TBC and Wrath.

mmorpgs i enjoyed most :

1. wow - has great community , super polished and fun , addicting in a good way
2. dark ages of camelot - aw man i miss this game so much , had the best pvp EVER
x. and 1 from indie mmos , would be Fallen earth , its buggy , clunky etc. , buts its so unique and i love the crafting system and post apocalyptic setting

mmorpgs i didnt enjoy at all :

1. guild wars - worst mmo in my opinion
2. lineage 2 , aion .
3. < insert any asian or ncsoft mmo game here >
4. eve is quite boring , its so freakin slow ... i didnt found it fun at all , but i respect the people who have the patience to play it , community is really great also

Battleground Europe(WWIIOL):

Rather nice, WWII game, with relatively realstic settings(at least compared to many other games).

Plus, I simply enjoy games where I must control the character/tank/plane/etc. not just input commands.

Star Wars Galaxies pre cu I had a blast with that game so much that is pretty much all I did in my free time for 6 months (back when I had a lot of time). I had a pretty good time in WoW during bc but that was mostly because of the guild I played with.

I want to get into an MMO soon, but I'm having trouble finding the right one. I love sci-fi so I want to play EVE, but I hear it has a steep learning curve and is more like a 'job'. I heard WoW is fun, but I also heard there's too much grinding. So what's you guy's final say on what MMO I should try out?

criinok

there is no grinding in WoW

yes, there are quite a few "kill x amount of creatures", but for the most part the quests have good story to them, and there is a bit of diversity to them. And there is always enough quests to level, so there is no need to grind.

EVE is a good game, but youre right; it has a steep learning curve, and most of the time it doesnt feel like an actual game, more of an "activity".

"quest" grinding?

I'm sorry, but how else are you going to level without questing and doing dungeons and stuff?

Grinding is just killing stuff senselessly with no point but to get xp.

So far, probably WOW.

But Tabula Rasa had an awesome soundtrack. (servers are closed for it now I think)

I will prolly play Wow for another 6 or so months, hopefully Tor will be awesome, along with The secret world, and torchlight.

Those are the MMO games that I am interested in which are scheduled to come out some time in the near future.

I played only the trial of SWG, but it was awesome :P
