Hey guys, I'm a new comer, an idiot about computer. Actually speaking, I am not sure where to put my question one, so here it is. I have two things to do. One thing is to keep track of the downloads across my computer and the other is to monitor who is using it. I'll explain why. I share this apartment with my roommate. He doesn't have a computer so he sometimes uses mine. I have told him not to browser those dirty websites or video as it might bring virus to my computer. These days, when I start my computer, a pornographic video dialog box will pop up and invite me to join them. I disable it in the startup. However, when I restart my computer, it pops up again. I asked him what was wrong and he looked of innocence, saying that he didn't do anything. What I want to be able to do is to see what has been done through my computer and who has used it? I'm not a super tech type so need to keep it reasonably simple. Any ideas? Anyone have any software suggestions or anything that's already inbuilt in the OS (Mavericks) that may help?

go to c.net and get a free anti virus like avast or malwarebytes. Also get a program called CC Cleaner. Get the free version. It will clean all that crap. If it's still not gone after the anti virus scan and CC Cleaner then get Spybot Search and Destroy 2.0. That will get rid of any bad spyware. Lock your computer with a password. no more sharing.

@jannywing:

Reinstall Windows, set-up a password protected Administrator account that only you have access to, create him a limited user account that does not have a password. That way it will be much harder for him to run programs that can harm the computer. Install an antivirus like Avast. You could also look into parental control software that can further limit what he can do and possibly keep track of what he's doing.

Agree, go get Malwarebytes. May take several tries to clean out the Trojans, but it can clean it out.

He's clearly not trustworthy. Just don't let him use your computer.

Well, I guess. After all, we share a room and I don't think it is good. I will talk to him. Thank you.
