What gaming PC could play The Witcher 3 on medium settings?

I was a console gamer but now I want to switch to PC gaming. I want to buy a PC that would at least be good enough to play The Witcher 3 on medium settings and higher than 30 fps. I would also like the PC to be good enough to play other next-gen games on medium settings. My budget is less than $800. Does such a PC exist for less than $800?

A PC as in everything? kb/m, monitor, tower, speakers etc?

If its just a tower, it can be done.

Hard to answer that question without seeing the specs first, whether the game scales well or not. I would look at witcher 2 recommended as a baseline though.

In my opinion if you can run The Witcher 2 on HIGH settings, then you "should" be able to run The Witcher 3 on medium. Looking at the 800$ budget I'd say you could probably find a good nVIDIA (during the holidays, at least) machine that "could" run TW3 on medium in 1080p definition at 30FPS easily.

Well i Spent about $900 in 2010 on a new build that ran the witcher 2 at mostly high settings (no ubersampling of course) , 50 - 60 fps give or take on these specs:

  • i7 920 D0 @ 4ghz
  • ATI 5870
  • 6GB Ram

Having an overclocked CPU really helps wonders, stock was 2.6ghz, so i gained a decent amount of performance, so any new build today with the right parts will run all The Witcher games easily, to what degree the witcher 3 will run at remains to be seen.

My PC could do it, its runs Witcher 2 on high settings. I have an AMD FX 8350 and a Radeon HD 7850, not an expensive build by any means.

Thats easily doable. I would wait for the 1st week of sept. as the AMD 8350 prices will be slashed.

My prediction for specs :

Minimum :

Quad core CPU , 6 GB ram 650 or 7770 20 GB HDD free

Recommended :

I7 cpu or 8350 AMD , 8 GB ram , 780 or 290 20 GB HDD free .

Its only a prediction but i think the minimum gonna be like this . :)

I would say more like

Min: high end dual core like i3, or any quad core, 4gb, GTX 460 or 6850

Rec: High end quad core, or AMD six core, 6gb, GTX 660 or 7850

Optimal: i7 or FX 8, 8gb, GTX 680/ GTX770 or 7970/280x

I looked online and found some gaming PC's that I could afford. Which of these PC's would be good enough to effectively play The Witcher 3 on medium settings? I prefer to buy the cheapest one that would work. I also want the PC to last for at least a few years before I have to upgrade the parts to play the newest games.

All of your linked systems suck, best one from the bunch would be the one from target, and there no way it could even manage medium settings.... You can get something much better.... For $850 You can get a good balanced gaming pc LINK which will allow high settings. Needless to say spend the extra $150 because your talking about 3-4x the performance difference from the best gpu from your list vs what I linked.

Either go with this pre built PC

OR

If you're willing to spent 30min - 2 hours of your 1st gaming rig build via 1-2 YouTube tutorials you can have a much BEASTIER gaming rig: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CZNwmG

Trust me, you can't find anything that comes close at pre built PCs ;)

Oh, and you won't be doing medium settings on Witcher 3 but probably maxing it :D

My PC was $800 to build minus Windows 7 (I get it for free). I can run The Witcher 2 at high with my 7850 and most likely will run The Witcher 3 at medium settings. I may upgrade my gpu soon though.

I might decide to just build a PC. But if I do build a PC then the problem is that I wouldn't be able to call customer support when I have technical difficulties. if I buy a PC from a manufacturer then I would at least be able to call the manufacturer's customer service department if I get frustrated with any unforeseen problems. I'm a big dummy when it comes to PC hardware. Everything about PC's sound so confusing and I'm trying to get used to it. I hope that I don't make any clumsy mistakes when I build my PC.

sorry to hijack the thread but on a similar vein, do you guys think a r9 280x would be enough to be play the witcher 3 on high?

believe this guy... he sits at a solaris terminal all day "fiddling with java on redhat".... he CLEARLY knows what he is talking about.

Yet would you say that you disagree with farrell2k, i.e. you don't agree that building a computer would be cheaper?

@matthew310: Well the 149$ 750 ti can max out the wticher 2.....but that games was dx9 and the perfomance was bad due to that, since dx10 and dx11 optimizations were not utilized.

Dont do anything yet, wait for the 8 series and the 860 gtx wil run the game better than consoles.

In any case xbone will run this game on medium.

Tons of tutorials on YouTube and on other websites, you're also welcome here to ask any question if you'll have any difficulties building your 1st build.

Awwwww, someone is upset because he was proven to be a dumb ass another thread. HAHAHAHAHA!

"proven"? i guess you must define "proven" as you throwing a temper tantrum and spouting a bunch of bullshit. interesting interpretation of the word, ill give you that.
