Something smaller (not super widescreen) would be nice... it doesen't need to have great battery life. I understand i won't get anything amazing but something that can play Conan on good settings would be great.

it depends what kind of gaming u want to do. if ur looking to play a game like Conan, u need to know its specs to understand where u stand on the price range.

Minimum configuration:
(1024x768, detail reduced)

  • OS: Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Vista
  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3Ghz or equivalent
  • RAM: 1GB
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 6600 or better
  • Video memory: 128MB
  • DVD-ROM: Quad-speed (4x) DVD-ROM drive
  • HARD DRIVE SPACE: 30GB

Recommended configuration:
(Up to 1280X960, most features on)

  • OS: Windows XP SP 2 or Windows Vista
  • Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent
  • RAM: 2048MB Dual Channel DDR2
  • Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX or equivalent
  • Video memory: 512MB
  • DVD-ROM: Quad-speed (4x) DVD-ROM drive
  • HARD DRIVE SPACE: 30GB

Online Gaming

  • Broadband connection required.

i personally recommend going with SAGER laptops, since im also looking for a SAGER powerhouse laptop that can be called a Crysis Destroyer (Model NP9262) with the right modifications.

for the your Conan game, i recommend the Sager NP6790, with the right fixings the pricing can come out to be 1700.

the Nvidia GeForce 8400M G Graphics with 128MB Video Memory is a little weak for a 1300 price tag =/

are there any laptops that have the 8800 card in them for under 1500?

Also another question... what is the order of best to worst with these 3 cards? I see them alot and i don't know which is better.

NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M "GT"

NVIDIA GeForce 8600M "GS"

I've been looking at this laptop and it seems really slick for it's price

This one is $1250 and has a 8800M GTS which would destroy a 9500/8600/3650 in performance it wouldn't be even the slightest to close http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8780198&type=product&id=1204332501169 As for brand names/quality I don't know awhole lot about gaming laptops since way more than majority use desktops

Couldn't you just build a better desktop for much cheaper? That's what I'm doing.

I use to always ask that question in threads like this but then I realized after a few post that most people buy a gaming laptop because thats exactly what they want. Not once did they just suddenly turn around and say " oh im getting a desktop now"

Yeah I kinda thought the same thing since your paying $1300 for a system with a card that wasn't designed/made for gaming

anything with a core 2 duo, 2gb ram and 8600gt, hd3650, 9500gs hd2600 or better will run all new games pretty well. my dell xps laptop with 2.2ghz core 2 duo 2gb ram and 8600gt can close to max out every game except crysis which runs fine on med. if you want something portable then go for the 15.4" models

not sure about the 3850 but the 8600gs is a 8600gt cut in half and has clock speeds reduced. 32 shaders vs 16 shaders I think the 9500gs is about the same as 8600gt, avoid the 8600gs unless you don't mind game running on low -med settings

I just came back from best buy to check out the laptop. I like the performance and the price alot... but i didn't think the 17 inch would be that big. I need portability so i'm pretty much sticking to the 15 inchers.

Is the 9500 GS a good card or is it alot worse than the 8800?

i remember seeing the nvidia 9xxx series on the ASUS laptop. it was on this page; http://www.btotech.com/_e/loc/product/g1sn-a1/Asus_G1SN_A1.htm
it was this card -> nVidia 9500GS 512mb

i wanted ot ask about that. what would be better: two 8800GTX SLI or a one nVidia 9500GS 512mb?

i think you made a typo... two 8800 gtx cards??? One is allready beast for a laptop... and impossible to find in a 15' laptop. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220279 i think this laptop is better than the one you posted. It has a 2.5 processor instead of 2.1... one less gig of ram though. But better battery life and 50 bucks cheaper. It doesen't have the huge 1650 resolution but the other one is already really good for a 15' laptop (there is also the 1024 resolution which is usually standard for 15' laptops... the 1650 is overkill because you would have VERY small text and hard to read on a 15') here is the one you posted but on newegg for reference http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220281&Tpk=Asus%2bG1SN-A1
