Even though it's mainly a console series (although it was first scheduled to be on the PC, so it deserves that much respect), the Halo series.
That, and the Half Life series.
1-Star Control II: The Ur-Quan Masters 2-System Shock 2 3-Deus Ex 4-Magic Carpet 2: The Netherworlds 5-Rocket Jockey This is about as far as I can go without having to question myself as to what games should go where on the list. Also, even the top 5 may change as I play more games(for instance, I used to have System Shock 2 as my No. 1 game prior to my encountering UQM 0.4.0).NamelessPlayer
Excellent choices. StarCon 2 was one of my favorite games of all time, as well as SS2 and Deus Ex. The only ones I'd add are X-COM: UFO Defense and Fallout 2.

I own Fallout 2, but haven't played it because I haven't beaten Fallout 1 yet. (And Fallout 1 would probably make number 6 on my list.) As for X-Com, I remember playing a bit of a demo for Terror from the Deep(IBM PC DOS)which just featured the Battlescape mode. Based on that experience, as well as what I've read on it from the Internet, I'd probably love it if I were to get into playing the full versions(at least when I'm not getting frustrated because I didn't capture a certain scientist I need to finish the game or whatnot).well, you can add all these to the greatest PC games of all time. also, some of our members think that, they should'vedeserved more attention than they've got. *massive game title list omitted for your convenience* Whoa, that's a huge list, and it's got some nice titles, to boot. Namely: -MDK (The first game I know of where headshots actually mattered. Both games are a must-play in my book, though I'm not sure where I'd place them on my "greatest games ever" list.) -Deus Ex (I don't think I need to say anything about how great this game is.) -Operation Flashpoint (Vast environments and realistic infantry action, as well as a ton of vehicles to hop in and use. A nice change of pace from Battlefield or most other FPSs. Oh, and why'd you list it TWICE?) -System Shock (The original deserves recognition too, though it has some weird controls and may need a little DOSBox fiddling to get working correctly.) -Terra Nova (Only played a demo of it, but it's nothing short of impressive for a 1996 title. How did this one go under the radar commercially?) -Anachronox (Only seen the machinima, but it's probably worth playing for the dialogue alone. "I will kill you-with DEATH!") -Magic Carpet (One of those Bullfrog Studios classics everyone should play. There's no way I can give this game a worthy description in a short sentence.) -Starflight (I've played a bit of the Amiga version of this game thanks to WinUAE, and it's great for being one of the first space adventure and exploration titles. The whole "rediscovering your race's past, as well as that of an 'Old Empire'" concept was pretty cool, as was training your starship's crew to perform their duties better. However, there isn't much in the way of music, and the various races don't have the charm of those from Star Control II. It could make my top ten greatest games ever once I complete it, still.) -Rocket Jockey (Another one of those highly original and addicting titles. Dragging people around while on your rocket bike never gets old, and the surf guitar soundtrack is nothing short of excellent.) -MDK2 (A solid follow-up to a great game, though some may have preferred to stick to Kurt Hectic all the way and not bother with Max or the Doc. It's also proof that Bioware knows how to make more than RPGs.) -Trespasser (I actually bought this game when it was new. Maybe the game itself wasn't all that great, but the engine was leagues ahead of anything else in 1998. Especially the physics.) That's enough games to comment on for now...and it turns out that it's not just OFP that's been mentioned twice. Could you clean up your list a bit, removing all the duplicates?knights and merchants, really old and awesome strategy game :)berobnx
I remember playing that game in my cousins house
some of the greatest games would be something like that:
1. StarCraft
2. Warcraft
3. Age of Empires Series
4. Command & Conquer Series
5. World of Warcraft
6. Need for Speed Series
7. Call of Duty Series
8. Half Life & CounterStrike Series
8. Grand Theft Auto Series
9. Unreal Tournament Series
10. Tomb Rider Series
That`s a Top10:D
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Frozen Throne
Vampire The Masquerade
Doom
Icewind Dale series
Starcraft
Half-Life series
World of Warcraft
Second Life
Guild Wars
Star Wars Galaxies
Planescape: Torment is THE greatest game ever made.
I have played many of the other great games... half life, WoW, baldur's gate series, kotor, elder scrolls series, etc etc... nothing even comes close in my opinion!
Half-Life (and Counter-Strike)
Total Annihilation
Sam and Max: Hit the Road
Jedi Knight series
Indigo Prophecy
[QUOTE="Cycloptis"]Ultima Series
Baldur's Gate Series
No One Lives Forever Series
Just a few to add, along with Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat.
But you forgot Grim Fandango, which is fantastic.
rockhurst
Definitely NOLF. It was the first FPS that really took the genre and made it something more than mindless shooters like Doom. That'll always be one of my absolute favorites.
Actually it was 1998's Half-Life that did that.
...and no matter what anyone says those "mindless shooters" like DOOM, DOOM 2, Quake, and Jedi Knight are among the greatest PC games ever made.
