What are the greatest PC games of all time?

Heres a list that I'm still working on,

Day of the Tentical, Monkey Island, Sam and Max hit the road. Prince of Persia *the original*, Carmageddon, Age of Empires, Heros of Might and magic series *it also had the best music I've ever heard in a game*, Wing Commander 2, Strong Hold *The Original*, Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem.... I'll probably do a lot of editing to this list because there are lots more 8).

Whats your greatest PC games of all time?

Update 08/10/05: which games deserve recognition (Hall of Belated Fame) because they did not sell well. Many have already been stated, but the PC has an huge supply of games and developers so it would be interesting to see what your (Hall of Belated Fame) game that nobody noticed is.

Update 08/18/05: Absolutely fantastic game added to my list (I cannot believe I over looked this one).

Update 08/19/05: I wonder how many of you still remember this one. I'm suprised there were no sequals to it.

Update 08/22/05: One of the forgoten greats. Theres also another that just came to mind.

Update 08/23/05: Two games, and one of which is done on a Grand scale.

Update 09/01/05: Ahhhh!!! I've got worms. I mean worms the game :P.

Update 09/11/05: The last bump my friends. The next Greatest PC games thread will have to start from scratch. But before this one dies completely add to our lists or feel free to prove us wrong on a game :).

Well, I have you say, you got my list there too, I would have to add Sensible Soccer for footy and Cannon Fodder.

Ultima Series - Only if you consider 1-5 or 6. Last couple, Ascension in particular should NEVER be considered in a discussion of best of all time. As a side note, I think Ultima IV was probably the best RPG of all time, considering it was the first game that you actually had to ROLE-PLAY to become the Avatar (remember being tempted to steal reagents from the blind vendor?)

Baldur's Gate - definitely on the list... for revolutionizing the Genre

And if you can't tell that I am a RPG fan...

I'd say Elder Scrolls series (Morrowind in particular) should be considered one of the best of all time because:

1. No other series lets you play how you want to play, be who you want to be, become what you want to become.

2. Open ended. As great as BG was, it was fairly linear in comparison to Daggerfall or Morrowind

3. Story. I haven't seen an RPG with a storyline as deep and immersive as Morrowind.

4. Visually stunning. A must for all games of all genres. But can you tell me of a game that looked better than Morrowind?

The best part of it is, the folks at Bethesda keep getting better and better with each new game they make in the series. Now, if they can make combat a bit more interesting, spruce up the spell effects a bit, I think Oblivion will make your list of greatest of all time!

I don't know what the greatest PC games of all time are, but my personal favourite PC games are...

Diablo (part 1)

Aces Over Europe (an old WWII combat flight sim)

Stunts (an old car racing game in which you could build your own tracks)

Doom I & II

Guild Wars (spiritual successor to the Diablo series, atleast until they announce Diablo 3)

Oh man, there are so many epic PC titles. I'll name a handful of them.

• Homeworld series
• Starsiege: Tribes
• Baldur's Gate series
• PoP: The Sands of Time
• Total Annihilation
• Grim Fadango
• Ghost Recon
• Ground Control series
• Silent Hunter series

Although some of these games will be a pain in the ass to find, believe me they'll be worth the effort.

Your right. I dont come to these boards alot. I didn't think it was posted that often so I made my own thread then unfortunately I get blasted for doing so.

On Topic: Kings Quest series was awsome. They dont seem make much in the way of point and click (adventure/story i.e. day of the tentical style) games that much anymore.
