After a well known career in the service of PC power. Socket 939 was laid to rest with honors last December in its home state of Texas. Born in June 2004. Socket 939 became a star after it replaced AMD's previous model, Socket 940. Fans grew to love Socket 939 as it housed Athlon 64 FX series (FX53 - FX60) CPU and took us from single core to dual core. Its final partner, FX-60, said of the 939: "When people think of its ass whooping day against Intel, they'll think of the 939." If you want to order the final shipment of Socket 939, do it ASAP, before its too late. Socket 939 is survived by its siblings, Socket AM2 and Socket 1207. RIP 939.

I don't own personally anything newer than socket 754 and don't have any reasons for upgrades at this time.

Though i will be glad i got my 5000X2 cheap, If it weren't for the 939 Intel would still be ranting about their P4's, i gotta say processer these years have been crazy, with the release of core duo and K8l soon to come we've got a lot to see, all thanks to 3 numbers 939

The 3400+ s754 also came in a 512kb L2 cache version clocked at 2.4GHz. I have the 3700+ s754 which is also clocked at 2.4 Ghz.

Being on s754 I also won't miss the s939. I do wish sometimes I had done my research a little better and waited like 2 months to buy my current pc so I would have been able to get a s939

Chill macpop dude, we all know it's dead officially, but that a socket is only really dead when you can't find any spare parts any more. Spare parts we will see more often now, since those who upgrade to AM2 still have their old S939, which they either trash (damn those!) or sell.

biggest load of bs, just because no more 939 cpus are being made doesnt mean its dead, my 3800x2 @ 3.2ghz still keeps up with c2d that to me says its still alive

There's no need to be get so defensive just because some old tech you love is dieing out.

yes. it is old tech. it's been around for how many years? that's old. it's been replaced by newer tech. that's old. that's just the way it is. it doesn't make any statements about it being good or not, but it's been phased out. i don't really understand what you're trying to argue with the other guy about.

When have you been at 3.2ghz?
All the benchmarks I have seen from you are at 2.8ghz, plus that is what your sig says...

BTW- An Athlon at 3.2ghz still can't compete with a stock x6800.
Athlon at 3.2ghz = about 2400 CPU marks
x6800 @ 2.9ghz = 2550-2600 CPU marks

The Athlon isn't bad, especially at 3.2ghz, but comparing a stock processor to an overclocked one doesn't make much sense.  Either way the C2D is a better buy, stock vs stock or overclocked vs overclocked. So I don't know why you keep up your ignorance...

I don't believe anything this guy say. If you look a previous thread I made, he claimed in his sig to have his CPU OCed @ 2.7Ghz at stock voltage, which is 1.3V for the X2-3800. Then he posted up some pictures and it clearly shows in CPUZ and another program that it was running at 1.4V. He said it was CPUZ fault that it was showing 1.4V, because he clearly set it to 1.3V in the BIOS. He thinks I don't know anything. Then he said I was stupid for getting two 7900GT when I can get a 8800 GTS, never did he know, I built that rig a year ago. I think this guy is just talking out of his ass to make him feel better. Anywho, yeah I did copy this from MaximumPC, I guess I just wanted to share some story.

i just went back and i clearly saw that i said with no V changes, i can even take pics of the bios to make u look like a bigger menzo , and wheres ur pics? i showed mine i wont be surprised if ur @ 1.6V  im about to oc to 3.2ghz and take a pic just to prove u wrong once again

and if u even knew wat ur sayin a stock V for a 3800x2 939 is 1.35V, i havent even touched my V and got to 2.75ghz and i need to go to 1.45V for 2.8ghz, and i can do a stable 3.2ghz @ 1.65V ill even give ya my stepping thats known to hit 3.5ghz @ 1.8V under water or Vapochill, its funny since i know damm well u cant even do a +.75ghz with a V change, and if u say so u cant even prove it like last thread when u just walked away

You're ABOUT to OC to 3.2Ghz? Meaning you haven't OC yet? So why is your sig showing 3.2ghz @ 1.65V? I'm thinking you did a test OCed but it was unstable so you change it back to your old speed? Did you get 2004 Dual Prime to run for awhile? But whatever, I don't want to argue with you anymore, you might report me to the Mod.
