I'm replacing my computer this summer

Antec 900 case, AMD R9 290, i7 3770k with z77 motherboard/msi cpu cooler, SSD, 12gb ddr3, windows 10

Just trying to get an idea of what I can get for it. It's nothing fancy but it's still a decent office computer with some 1080p gaming capabilities.

I was thinking maybe sell it to some local kid for like $350 ??

I think $350 is reasonable, yes. I mean that's a game-ready PC that can play new titles at decent settings and frame-rate.

$350 is generous

$400-450 is reasonable and you can probably even shoot for $500 if you really want to get as much out of it, depends on the condition and how big is the ssd?

I would also go for 350-500$ price point, i7 K edition which can be OC, 12Gb of RAM, R9 290 isn't that bad today - it can run games on medium-high settings at 1080p.

I run 290x and it runs most games very high

Medium-high is too low. Thats more 1050/1050ti level. His card is a tad slower than a 970/1060 3gb (easy work for 1080p, especially since game requirements have stagnated for the last 3 to 4 years ).

R9 290 is 15% slower than GTX970, I know so and I had R9 290 before my current GTX970.

R9 290X is on par with 390 I think, I hope you're using water cooling because it gets up to 95C.

Even 15% slower its nowhere close to medium settings. My 290x which isnt much faster than his gets majority very high. Where so far into this generation that running 1080p even in 2019 is a breeze

290x temps are extremmely blown out of proportion. It took AMD a very long time to get third-party cards out so a lot of people were running stock paste and reference blower cooler which is what gave it a terrible reputation at launch.

My dual fan asus 290x with Gelid paste has never gone above 75C. Both the asus and MSI dual fan models reviewed at 78C load with stock paste
