Hi, it's been quite some time since I've upgraded my graphics card and I still have this saphire x1950 pro at the moment.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102075

but I will be buying this card tomorrow and am just wondering what kind of performance boost I would be expecting to get

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150534

I haven't played much video games lately but I just splurged on steam recently and am now playing borderlands, dragon age origins and also starcraft II. Also my video card runs really hot right now so that is also a major need for me to upgrade would like to know how this card would hold up with these games.

Oo and I have an athlon II x4 640 processor, 4gb of ram and windows 7 professional 64-bit

Is it the 6790 or the 6970? and a pretty big boost in performance. Might want to look at a cooler for OC'ing.

It's a 6790 and I don't think I'll be overclocking anytime, unless I get into a game like BF3, but I don't think I'll be getting that anytime soon either. I'm just interested in catching up on some games I missed in these recent years. Also how well would I be able to play Crysis with this setup?

Medium-to-high, but OC'ing does help with crysis

get the 6850, dont get the 6790.

its a $10 difference, believe me, its worth the price. $10 is nothing and you will have 2x as much ROP's.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908

if your last card was the x1950, you might as well get a $10 better card if you plan on keeping it for a while.

You really should spend the extra $5 and get the 6850. The extra performance gain is worth way more than an extra $5

You sure you don't want to spend like 10 more and get the 6850?

Where does the 6790 derived from anyway? A cut down 68xx??

Get the 6850 since the other posters keep suggesting the small price gap with good boost to the next best card.

lolll damn straight. But for starcraft 2, a cpu upgrade will benefit you more than a cpu upgrade. Either way with the x4 640 you're fine.

its actually just the core off an hd 6850 on a 6770 board. powercolor also had an asian circulation only card with was a juniper XT core on a 6850's board which actually wasnt too bad but it was a bit meaningless it jsut sat over the best oc's a 5770 or 6770 could accomplish but under the 6790's preformance. and it was very noisy.

Lolwut? Cancel it right now and get a 6870 if you're going to spend that much. A 6870 will run you $170 >_>

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948

or even the GTX 460 1gb for $156

well I got that one because I heard it runs really cool and also heard that the 6850 runs cooler too. I don't have a great case so keeping things cool is top priority for me :/

My Sapphire 6850 doesn't have a fancy cooler and it runs cool (100% load 70C). A 6870 and 460 runs just as cool as well. Seriously, cancel it before its too late, you're wasting your money.

If the starting price is $150 or less, yes that is a great deal. If you are going to spend more than $150, get the GTX 460 1GB, if more than $165, get the 6870. Good luck.
