So I'm running a 2500k on a Z77 mobo (LGA 1155). OC'd to 4.2.

I just upgraded to an SLI GTX 770, and I'm pretty sure i'm seeing bottleneck issues. (100% CPU usage on some games set to full settings).

My question is this: Is it worth it to upgrade to a 4930k (and upgrade the mobo as well), OR should I stay put and wait another year for the Broadwell chips from intel?

Thanks for any tips!

Unless your playing games that can make use of all 6 cores and 12 threads of that i7 your not going to see much improvement over that 2500k. Seeing 100% cpu usage does not mean cpu bottleneck , a bottleneck would be getting the other gpu in sli and see little to no performance gains. also another way to tell is to see the gpu usage, if you had near 100% with one gpu and after adding the 2nd only seeing like 60% usage on both. I would say overclock that i5 more if you can to 4.4-4.6ghz possibly getting a better cooler and wait for intel's next batch of cpu's.

TC is it many or few games that you see 100 CPU utilisation? If it is only a few games then I would suggest wait for Broadwell or Skylake, and in the meantime maybe OC some more if you can. Getting it up to 4.4 shouldn't require much. 4.5 and 4.6 isn't so difficult either though it might require a bit more voltage to get it stable than you perhaps like.

I think Skylake will come with many new features as SataExpress, PCIe 4th gen and other things.

The difference between 2500K and 4930K is HUGE in terms of benchmarks - nothing more, you won't notice any difference in gaming if you'll go with 4670K.

And no, I'm not recommending getting 4670K neither because there's almost no difference between it and the 2500K.

What's your GPU usage in these games with 100% CPU usage?

I went from a 2500k to a 4770k and seen a pretty big increase when I had my 7990. I was heavily bottlenecked in some games with the 2500k.

Roughly 50% performance increase in benchmarks.

i went from a 2600k to a 4770k, and the performance was so little i could only measure it with benchmarks. maybe 5-15%, and these were benchmarks that used all cores... for gaming the performance was less then 5 percent since most games i have only use 2 threads.

if ur doing a lot of video compression and want to save a few minutes here and there then go for it, but if ur gaming don't bother upgrading ur cpu yet.

you would think a 4th gen cpu should completely pass a 2nd gen cpu in everything, but it doesnt at all.

everyone is still waiting for the next big leap in cpus but nothing like that is out right now.
