Just out of curiosity, was wondering what people's preferences would be.

Would you rather have "standard" definition (1080p) resolution, but one of those crazy wide monitors that almost takes up your peripheral vision...

...or a nice 4K monitor?

And don't say both :D

Pretty much. Anything limited to 1080 vertical resolution is not worth it. 1440p 16:9 is the minimum I recommend and If people can afford ultrawide, all the better. 4K is still too demanding for most users, but certainly looks amazing if you have the rig to support it.

Damn, 40% off on this one right here. Wondering if it's overkill for me, though. Dell Alienware 34" curved 2K screen

Unless Gsync is a must, LG is releasing a 144Hz (freesync) 3440*1440 monitor early next year. The Gsync version should be released before Christmas. That one is limited to 120Hz though.

That is the monitor that I own and it is amazing. You need a beefy rig to use it to its full potential though. Definitely need to upgrade that GTX 980 of yours.

I am upgrading my card, no doubt about that.

I just have a bad feeling about the RTX 2080; feel like I'm going to buy it and then the newer cards are going to come out soon haha. I mean either way it's a beast of a card and a HUGE improvement over the 980, so I can't really go wrong.

Sweet, I will look into it.

Thanks for the link btw that seems like a helpful place to go. I don't spend nearly as much time as I should at that site.

@mrbojangles25: Don't have to go for 2080. You could probably get a 1080 Ti for cheaper. I sold my 1080 Ti Aorus Xtreme for $850 CAD on Craigslist not long ago. Lesser models will go for cheaper and you don't have to pay tax. 1080 Ti does pretty good at 3440x1440, but if you want really high frame rate, you will have to lower settings on some games.

1440p ultrawide 120hz ultra settings should be the focus. 4k is still in its infancy stages due to brutal game engines

4K isn't made for Windows. The operating system and many programs don't scale well. It's also far too demanding for big new games. QHD all the way. 4K is for movies and some TV shows and image viewing. Ultrawide aspect ratios don't really interest me either, though. I tried out some curved TVs at Best Buy and didn't like how skewed the picture was, QHD 16:9 already gives me plenty of space.

I like Ultrawide 1440p but would probably trade my monitor in for a nice 1440p 144hz IPS panel at this point.

1440 144Hz... because gaming at 4K on a monitor is a waste of resources.

4K on a 32", however, is great for productivity.
