2 8800GTS's in SLI beat the 8800GTX (single) by only about 20 FPS. In almost all games.

If you are going with an Intel CPU, Get a 680I mobo for SLI. And an enermax Galaxy 1000w you cant go wrong. If you have an AMD proc then a 590 SLI chipset would suffice.

I've been deciding which card to buy, will probably go for the ultra when I can afford it, then SLi it later. Have to sell my two 7900's first though.

The Ultra has 768mb of memory, the 640GTS' have 640mb.... they don't add when you SLI. In addition, it creates a lot more heat and uses more power to SLI. The memory clocks and everything are also higher on the Ultra. Top that off with the fact that the performance isn't really double and I would prefer to just grab a single Ultra.

A single card solution is almost always the better choice over a multicard one.

I'd just grab a single GTX, honestly.

As for a Q6600 and dual 8800GTS cards, you'd want a good quality 600W+ power supply.. I've heard Corsair's 520HX can handle them though. :)

Why? Just overclock the GTX.

Yea, two GTS's in SLi would be better than a single 8800 Ultra, particularly since an 8800Ultra amounts to basically an overclocked GTX.

Why? Just overclock the GTX.

Why when I could just overclock the Ultra also. The 8800Ultra isnt much more then the GTX in the first place. The 8800Ultra by my house is $650cdn, the GTX is $600.

If I was getting a GPU online, then I would still do the Ultra, its only $90 more then a GTX on ncix.com
