I am a big fan of the Total War series, I played Rome: Total War and Medieval: Total War and I loved them both. But I always play the demo of the games before I buy it, so I played the demo for Empire and Napoleon Total Wars and they were both good but I found some issues with the AI. For example, you guys know how the battles feel larger and your units are more scattered (at least in the demo), so I set one of my riflemen to just stay and fire at will so I can check up on another battle between infantry, by the time I'm done with myinfantry and I go to check back on my riflemen, they have been overrun by a group of cavalry and they haven't fired a shot. I found these same issues in Shogun 2, I'm not sure if these are because of AI issues or just because I suck. So I was wondering if you guys have been experiencing these types of issues.

Thanks for your comments

Reviews say the AI is much better, but I"m waiting myself for a year just to be sure and to save money with the eventual Game of the Year edition.

Only AI issue is I've had is that the land battle AI likes to stand there and do nothing. Sieges however are very tough for both ends. But just a basic land battle, the enemy lines up its army and stands there......maybe its trying to lure me into a trap, i dunno, but they always do it.

I dont know...the AI is usually a little stupid. They flank and hit at open weak points but you can always have them funnel into your cannons or create a formation that just has then getting riddled with lead as soon as they get within range. That of course is a talking about the enemy AI. When it comes to MY units they usually fire whenever something comes into range. It could have been that your unit DID fire at the cavalry but were reloading when they charged. They just sit there and reload unless you tell them to go head on. Best thing to do with cav is to funnel them into a barrage of bullets before they can get to you or have your own cav in reserve to get to the front in case you're being charged.

I don't remember experiencing that specifically, but you have to line them up how you want to shoot and set to fire at will. Maybe they attacked from the side?

THanks for all your comments guys. But reading the reviews and your comments it seems like the enemy AI has issues but the friendly AI is near-perfect. Maybe its cuz I suck but I always experienced a good enemy AI but a not so helpful friendly AI with issues. While playing the demo, Iusually get charged by the entireenemyat once except the general (who just sits in the corner). I don't know how to deal with a massive force charging at me at once, I can't look at all thesmall conflicts at once. This is usually how I lose a battle. Do you guys have any more tips on how I cancounter this.

THanks

Ah yes. This too. If the cav attacked from the side then the linemen wouldnt have done anything about it. Its annoying sure but its just that they always only shoot when something is in their detection arc.

Shogun 2's campaign AI is much better. I can't really say much about the Battle AI since I haven't played on hard or above, but on normal they are decent at regular battles and terrible at siege attacks. I wiped out the entire Takeda family tree just because their siege failed so bad.

Ok, so I was playing the demo n there is 1 historic battle that you can play and no matter how hard I try it is just so hard. How am I supposed to fight a battle and win when historically I have lost. Any tips on how I can win?

BTW, the battle is "The Battle Of Sekighara"
