This config should max out crysis, correct?

Case- Rosewill Tu-155

500w power supply

MSI 4850 512mb gddr3 video card

AMd phenom 9600 2.33 ghz ~ cpu

Gigabyte Mobo with 2 pci 2.0 expansion slots, nice overclocker. onboard 7800gs graphics with hdmi

4gigs gskill ddr3 pc 800 ram(note to upgrade 2ith 4 more gigs even though not needed)

500gb hdd 7200rpm sata

mouse/keyboard combo(nice newegg deal)

cd/dvdrw

arctic silver 5 cooler

but sunbeam contact core freezer cpu cooler that comes with a so called better thermal paste

all for 650$ approximately. I'm also going to either get an additional MSI 4850 gpu for crossfire, or just get rid of the first one and replace with a evga gtx 260..then buy another gtx 260 for sli...later on...

I'll seee.

It depends on how much my stupid mcdonalds job earns me. My original plan was 1000$ but now I reduced to 650$ due to some circumstances. I should have it by the end or middle of feburary.

SO that's a pretty good system right?

I mean i should be able to play valve games at max and maybe max out crysis and some other games

Buton other note i have an old agp fx5200 128mb video card coming in for my stupid old dell optiplex gx150. that piece of crap has 1.0ghz pentium, 3 cpu, 256mb of pc 133 ram, a stupid mobo, 30gig hdd, it's sad! I can't take it anymore!

I got an x1650 pro 512mb gpu that didnt fit in my case so I'm rma'ing it . WIll the 5200 128mb perfrorm better ? I got about 20-30 fps with wow on medium yesterday witht the x1650 so...

Well You need to get a dual core or quad Cpu thats near 3 Ghz because a 3 Ghz dual will out do a slower clocked quad. Next with crysis it likes nvidia cards better, byt the 4850 is a good card but you could save even more. Here Ill create a budget rig for you.

you are building it yourself right? Why get rid of the 4850 for a gtx 260 ?:S Why not just get a gtx 260 right off?

Well I found this nice bargin on Tigerdirect : http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4400022&CatId=1916 - $410 -Asus M3N78 PRO Barebone Kit - AMD Athlon X2 6000+ 3.0GHz OEM CPU, 2GB DDR2-800 Corsair, 250GB, GeForce 9600GSO, Mid-Tower Case, 600W PSU. Also needs dvd drive, cpu cooler, and OS and two 120mm fans. After those you will be set to go. Now about the 9600GSO it has no issues with any game at 1280x768 besides crysis which you will run it a mix of medium and high settings. But you can switch out the graphics card to a 9800GT/GTX or 4830/4850 and play crysis just fine and you still should be under the $650 mark.

I brought the price down to 555$ I'm in desperate need of a new pc so... \ The 9600 quad core agena instantly overclocks to 3.0 and above ghz on stock fans, not to talk of the fact that I'm using the contact core freezer which comes with a thermal paste that I heard is better than the arctic silver 5. I brought the video card down to a 9600gt because since i wont be using it for too long, I dont want to spedn too much money on a video card that I won't keep to long. Buit I should have the system by the middle of feburary. I'll keep you guys posted.

Yea listen to this guy^^ the old phenoms have a tlb bug which will hinder performance of an already low clocked processor with the patch applied.

Thanks man. I went with your basic config scheme but decided to make a few changes. I changed the mobo to an asrock a780gxe Mobo. It has 2 pci-e 2.0 sooo... I actually want quad gaming so I picked the 9600 agena which is 5$ cheaper than the intel GPU you chose. I kept your PSU and Case. Thanks man I like 'em both. Also kept your HDD. I added a cd/dvd rw drive since you didnt include any. And I changed the 2 gigs of ram to my first choiced g.skill 4gigs kit The total came to 650$ approximately with the gtx260 you chose, so I changed the gpu to a sapphire radeon 4870 512mb. Total is 600.03 with shipping included.

Hahahaha, max out crisis :P. If it's at like the highest resolution with EVERYTHING maxed, then I don't think so, but at a low resolution like that (which is mine, stupid 19" monitor :|) you should come very close or at it, the 4850 and gtx 260 are great cards. Oh and if you didnt know, NVidia has released a new version of its gtx 260 card called the gtx 260 core(sometimes just C) 216. It is a bump up in the stream proccesors from 196 I believe to 216. I think it cost about $20-$30 dollars more. I can't reccomend it as I haven't looked into it much, but definitly look into it :).

Honestly I don't really have any interest in crysis, I just used crysis to ask seems its like the official benchmarking tool. RFOMownage, I changed the processor to the 9750 so I'm guessing that's a better deal. I'm at 650 now with a 4870 instaed of the the gtx 260.

The FX5200 is much worse than the X1650. You'll be playing at lowest settings and poor framerates.

It's wouldn't make much difference if he has a 1Ghz Pentium3 in there. It's not going to run crysis or many other games. It will run Farcry1 though. I had a 1Ghz pentium3 with 640MB and FX5200 that ran farcry1. I doubt it would do doom3. I will however play Rome total wars on it, well at least the single player and it will play serious sam2 that one runs easy. Halflife2 might have some problems. I think that requires at least 1.2GHz so it may run. X1650 is better than the Fx5200 though esp with SM2 but the CPU is still holding it back.

The TLB fix lowers performance by 10%-15% in most cases. However, the errata only manifests itself during very specific virtualization situations, so disabling the fix is a very viable option for most people. I have had the TLB fix disabled on my 9600 for 6 months now and have had zero problems. And to the OP - if you seriously think you're going to OC the 9600 to 3.0 on stock cooling (or ANY cooling for that matter), you've got another thing coming. The 9600 does NOT overclock well, and you'll be lucky to get a 200-300mhz OC, let alone a 700mhz OC.

your rig will most definitly NOT max out crysis, (at least on higher resolutions). Not even my 4870x2 can max out crysis at 1920x1080 without suffering minor stuttering

I've got an AMD 64 X2 5600+ (OC'ed to 3.1GHz), 4GB memory, XP w/ SP3, 2x 8800GTS 512MB in SLI and I game on my 22" monitor with native 1680x1050. I can put all settings on high and with AA turned off, I can pull off an average 34.5 FPS. Lowest I recorded was 24 or 23 and highest was 45 or 46. I can play on those settings for the most part, but it lags a bit too much at times for me to enjoy. I turn half the settings to medium and the other I leave at high and I then average around 40 FPS this way and it's more enjoyable to play without the stuttering.

LOL - If everyone thought that Nvida / ATI would be bankrupt!

It's true tho, most games can be played on lower end systems, seems like we pay huge premium to play cutting edge games. I mean most of the games I play would still run well on a 7800 GTX 512 .

I honestly couldnt care less about resolution. I never really cared about that. I just want to get rid of this stupid dell optiplex gx150. this bastard has 256mb of ddr1 pc 133 ram. 1.0ghz pentium 3..some stupid mobo that has an 82815 intergrated graphics controller that only has 28mb video ram and doesnt even have 32bit mode. It has agp and pci slots and a 30gig hdd....it's only worth 40$ on some sites because its so old and stupid. I hate dells! dont ever buy a dell! DONT!
