Ive just stumbled across these benchmarks for the 4850x2, they look almost unbelievable!

Im glad im packing my next rig with a 4850, I can always upgrade to one of these when the games get tougher

Enjoy / argue / the usual response

COD4, 4850X2 VS GTX280Crysis 4850X2 VS GTX280

4850 FTW :p

He's saying that its two gpus on one card, which it is. Baiscly the peformence is almost identical to two 4850's sli-ing, but instead all on one card.

High end ATI cards seem to run games extremely well at 2560x1600.... I saw a benchie where a 4870x2 nailed Crysis at 2560x1600 and it was the only card that gave playabe frames of around 30-35... all other high end cards could barely get off the ground.

Undoubtedly, and I don't remember the 295 in the benchmark... I think it was SLI GTX280 although i can't be certain as i don;t remember where i saw it

I guess you didn't read my reply? It's obviously faster... I was making a point on how well the 4870x2 scales, and processes AA, in relation to the 4850x2

A few things to think about before buying this card:

1. It's 11.5" long. Make sure it will fit.

2. It runs hot and loud.

3. Only saphire makes them. Checkout the newegg reviews: 20% give it 1 or 2 eggs. Lots of complaints of heat, noise, and driver issues.

4. People say saphire's customer service is horrible.

Otherwise, I agree it's amazing on paper. Awesome performance at an incredible price. But the above 4 reasons kept me from buying the card.

No, actually for quite a few games the gtx 280 performs better than 2 4870's or 2 4850's at lower resolutions. Even in the source you linked it shows that for some games at 1920x1200 the gtx 280 had higher fps. Then there are other games (COD4 for example) where 2 4850's or 2 4870's seem to out perfom the gtx 280 at both low and high resolutions.

Yes the HD4850x2 is pure awesomeness.

Sadly it didnt get the attention it deserved :(

Maybe because just one partner could make it.... ATI's favorite partner is definetly Sapphire. :P

Its not just crossfire its also SLI...they suffer from Micro stuttering and sometime have driver issues with newer games. On top of that i have not seen a situation yet where a single GPU isn't enough for people unless they have a big monitor.

Why is it being compared to the 280 and not the 295, 295 is much better that this one. Also that graph does not seem right.

it true there favorite if sapphire but XFX Are the Best Right now For Warranty :D Lifetime warranty + 1 : moder friendly :D
Wish i bough a 4870x2 From XFX but nah : Would ad to wait 5 month and not buy 4870x2 at September :D

As 4870x2 is like 1 month old for XFX as manufacturer which offer a better Service then Visiontek
as it offer Transferable Ownership of the lifetime warranty + moder Friendly = Sell Friendly on Ebay :D

As johnny27 said, similar prices = fair comparison.
