WEll its all in the subject. Svchost.exe is like eating up 40% of my processor usage and I have an intel core 2 duo e6600. And it also eats up lots of memory. I'm on Windows XP SP2, any help GREATLY appreciated.

Is it svchost.exe or SVCHOST.exe? SVCHOST.exe is a virus, but it still shouldn't eat up 40% of your processor. If anything. Just end it and it won't cause any permanent damage as long as you don't remove it from startup.

If it isn't malware, it won't let you cancel it (if it does the computer will restart automaticly). I've seen malware that restarts itself though. So it's good to run a program anyways to make sure.
