Steam is temporarily unavailable. Please try later

I looked on google and couldnt find a solution that worked for me. Even though i have like 10 games I uninstalled just so i can try to fix it. I uninstalled and installed but no luck. Its been like this for 2 days.

I found this in another forum with someone having the same problem

"I am facing exactly the same problem.
I just got a new box pack of HL2 Episode 1.
Tried installing steam for the Autorun.
The update reaches 32-33% then restarts...goes into the loop 3 times then terminates leaving a message
"Steam is temporarily unavailable. Please try later."

PS: Mine is a 128 kbps wired connection
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!"

try going to the steam forums when reinstalling fails or call their customer support but did you buy the games online or on disk cause it will be easier if you have a hard copy of it.

I reinstalled and it didnt work. all my games are on disk and i just submitted a question to steam so i hope they will answer soon.

i had something like this. try reinstalling steam. it worked for me cause when i had logged on it said it needed an update so i let it sit there (i have dialup). it got to about 20% stopped went back to 0% and then said thatn steam is unavailable. i took my comp to my parents work (for broadband) and reinstalled it. it worked and i got to play a bit of CSSIantheone
