Gosh, why are people so obsessed about whether everybody else thinks that Steam is 'good' or 'bad'.

The only thign that I don't like about it is when your updating, and then for no apparent reason it just stops downloading the update so you have to pause and resume the download.

Steam is great for lazy people like me, and to get games that are no longer on most shelves. I like it.

Steam is easily the best unifying PC game system available. Auto-updates, full community, vast variety of games, superb anti-cheat system, non-invasive copy protection, some of the best customer support ever.

I don't understand how people can say that Steam is bad. It might have been... 6 years ago but it isn't even the same system it was back then.

steam rules. it automatically updates your games, precludes you from needing to insert a cd/dvd to play games, and provides an active gaming community to interact with.

It's bad if you have dial up (back in the day, that's what I used with steam). But it's becoming improved all the time, and it's great on fast internet.

Aside from Steam randomly hogging your bloody CPU when it scans for games or is updating (or just loading for crying out loud), Steam is fine and works as advertized. Great little distribution program, and is basically slowly turning into the PC equivelant of Xbox Live!, but for free.

I love/hate it. I blame Steam when my TF2 client gets stuck on 'Sending Client Info' when a map change occurs.

I read about people complaining alot on the internet, but personally, I love Steam. I don't have any problems with it. It's an easy way to keep your games up-to-date with the latest patch, and removes all of the useless game icons off the desktop.

Steam is good, it sucked when it just came out but I like it quite a bit. If you have quite a few games on it (I have DoW,TQ/IT,Gmod,TF2, painkiller (and basically every valve game but DoDS). It also has a very nice library for older games, like Deus Ex, Max Payne series, GTA series, VTMB, psychonauts, RTW and quite a few others. The library is rapidly expanding and you can buy a substantial amount of new games on it (CoD4, CoH, Medieval 2 TW, ETQW, bioshock, Sam and Max season 1) to name a few.

The 2 qualms I have with it personally is adding nonsteam games to steam doesn't work very well, and I really wish I could exchange games I have that are now on steam for the steam version simply because I find it WAY more convenient than trying to keep all the CDs and keys and worrying about what games need patches etc.

The only reason I would hate is if I only had 1 game that used it as by itself its a bit of a hassle. If 50% of your library is on steam though it works VERY well, especially when you reformat your comp.

It's funny to see to amount of praises here when you compare it with a few years ago and Valve was shutting down WON to replace it with Steam. People were pissed and came up with clever gif such as the guy getting buttraped by the steam logo.

Anyway, personally, I think its great and never had a problem with other than some messed up patches.

When I became a member with steam in 2004 I never had any problems with it. But as of these past year with steam update, my steam is acting up. Like for example: it downloads, but it stops in the middle and I have to reopen steam again for it to work. It works fine before. Right now I hardly used steam. I left all my games on my pc and I didn't transfer it on my laptop. The only game I play in steam for now is Counterstrike source. I hardly play that any more though. I hate steam! I still have alot of other games on there though. Like call of duty 4 ( I love it), grand theft auto Vice city, max payne, Infernal, Doom 2, Value games, half life games, Stalker, Hitman Blood money, gun, Pain killer, Portal, TF2. I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam! I hate steam!

Another thumbs up for Steam. I've been downloading games off it pretty consistently, and the only hitch I had was getting UaW (download kept halting every ~30%.)

Steam rocks. It's so useful lately. It has friends tab and a server tab to see if your favorite server is available. You can form and join groups. I've never had a problem with steam. Ever. Most people who do seem like the people who don't know anything about anything. It's usually there firewall or they're on 56k. PC gamer newbies perhaps.

Exactly. Those having problems are probably running dial up or something. Never had any issues with steam whatsoever.

I don't like it due to it's lack of content server browser. Although there are ways to force a content server, they are annoying and are very hit-and-miss. And, in my case, its not just usefullness, I need the content servers provided by my ISP as they don't count towards my bandwidth, and I have only 3 GB of bandwidth per month, so downloading TF2 updates will cap me.

One thing that not many people know: Steam INSISTS on running bloat-ware in the background even when you are not playing and when you are not even signed in to steam. THIS BLOAT-WARE SLOWS DOWN YOUR COMPUTER.

Aside from a few personal quirks, Steam is great. It's not that buggy as so many people make it seem like it is. I'd much rather use Steam instead of Origin or GFWL.

I have been usiging it about 6 years now and I have had no problems with it. Transferring games from one pc to another was a breeze. Steam is great overall (and the prices are really good when stuff is on sale!)
