Yep, day 1! 5%
Nope, not necessary. 51%
i5 FTW! 20%
In a few weeks, I'm waiting for reviews. 15%
X99, is that a spaceship? 10%

I've gone ahead and ordered myself some X99 goodness, won't arrive till next week as the MB is out of stock :(

Just wondering how many of you are doing the same.

waste of money upgrading from a 3930k

No plans to upgrade until intel comes up with a 10 core for $600.

I would, but I still haven't found anything that takes full advantage of my 2010 i7 930 :( I've sort of been sitting on extra processing power for almost half a decade now, I don't really need to sit on any more, I'll wait until there's some sort of bottleneck, but I don't foresee that happening for awhile.

I mean, by the time X99 is of any tangible use, we'll have much better stuff on the market for much better prices - I might consider taking the plunge then. Besides, I just bought a Samsung 850 Pro (my first SSD), I've still got plenty of fruits to enjoy from my X58. If I had the cash, I'd just wait. If you really are feeling that enthusiast's itch though...I'd understand.

@GoldenElementXL: Hehe

See the thing is, I really wanted to go for the 5960X but I have absolutely no need or reason to get it. The performance benefit I most likely wouldn't ever see, I only went for the 5930k over the 5820k is because of the extra PCI lanes. I might get another 780.....

Actually I think I'm with you. I have gone back and forth between the two almost daily. As of right this second I think I will go with the 5930. I can get that CPU and a X99 mobo for the price of the 5960.

Then again I do live about an hour away from a Micro Center and the 5960 is only $899 there.

How long are you gonna wait to add a 3rd card?

I recently did an upgrade to a 4790K

It's way too early for me to go X99. Everything is too new about it: the MBs, the new RAM, the new processors. I'll wait for a gen or 2

But hey, don't let that stop your enjoyment of the new hardware. Getting new hardware is always exciting. Like that gif in your OP :P

Indeed. I feel like any time I order PC hardware (even just RAM), I'm incapable of properly enjoying the succeeding days because I'm too busy being antsy, anticipating the performance boosts of the upcoming upgrade.

If I had an X99, I'd be pretty damn excited. New possibilities everywhere...including a new storage interface!

Yeah, it sounds incredibly nerdy but it's the same for me and I'm sure many PC gamers as well.

Placing it in your rig, seeing it in your case, testing it out... all very exciting :D

Certainly considering it, but I would need to build an entire new £2k system to fully take advantage of it.

But an i7 6 core seems so tempting

I never jump on the bandwagon of new tech, most of the time it's a bit buggy and comes with compatibility problems.

Always best to let a few versions get released before you buy.

These days, I have a rule: I'm done with lugging around full ATX midtowers. At the moment, there are simply not enough choice of micro-ATX and mini-ITX X99 boards, so I will wait.

In the end, I think I'll probably settle for a Z97, if I'm going to upgrade at all.

@Chatch09: I have 2 GPU's at the moment and it kind of bugs me that they're at x16/x8, I feel they're being held back. With the new CPU I'll be running x16/x16 and if I add a third x16/x16/x8 which I'm happier about..

Exactly my thoughts, Broadwell-K or Skylake-K will likely be my next upgrade.

2 GPUs never had problem on x8/x8.

Even if it seems strange, today's GPUs have not even passed PCI-E 2.0 need.

AMD knows this and they don't even have native support for PCI-E 3.0 on their boards in order to keep their prices lower.

I don't have numbers for GTX780 but I can show you GTX770 in SLI with x8/x8 configuration, having no problem at all...

PS: 2800Mhz? :O

What timings? And which company? :P

Considering it. I'm planning on building a beast ready for OR and 4k (or at least 1440p) but waiting for bigger leaps in GPU's first or a price drop on what's currently available. Hopefully DDR4 will drop a bit too. Will see what happens on the CPU front in the meantime. Probably jump on a 5930k if nothing else worthwhile comes along.

I am still with x58 platform for the last 6 years, I was looking forward to upgrade to x99 but the performance difference is small and way too expensive, I am probably just only upgrade my old i7 920(4.1GHz) with the Xeon X5650 for £55 I should be able to OC to 4.2-4.4GHz and it is 6 core CPU with 12 threads not bad at all, it should keep me 2 years more until the intel release broadwell and skylake.

x99, 5xxx, ddr4 is very expensive platform with no real performance gains over the previous 4xxx cpu's , I mean core per core at the same clocks the performance is still the same...

This, upgrading at the moment seems almost pointless, no games on the horizon seem to even challenge mid range computers.

Nope... I am rocking my 3570K at 4.5, with thinking about going up to 4.6 or 4.7 if I bother to re-seat the waterblock on it again. The GTX 680 needs to be replaced first, however judging by the rumours I've heard about 800/900 series Maxwell. it seems I'll just wait for Volta cards instead...

No, for most games, not really. It only benefits a few games in terms of actual performance. Wouldn't be a huge help to load times (mostly based on hard drive). Just prevents there from being a bottleneck if there ever is any.
