So i've been craving some L4D so i decided to go out and buy it. I was at the mall at the Gamestop store and all the PC games were listed 59.99. WTF? Pc games are normally 49.99, but L4D2 among other games were listed at 59.99. So screw that. I even went online before and at gamestop. com it was listed at 29.99. Guess ill try to buy it off steam for 37.99

You'd be surprised how often Gamestop 'jacks' the price on popular games to take advantage of the fact they'll still sell regardless, aside from those of us who are none the wiser and run to the Walmart next door to get it at its proper MSRP.

There is little point in buying a retail version of a Valve game, anyway. As for that Mall Gamestop's pricing, it's likely it was only that Gamestop, because they knew they could get away with it.... Their online site has it listed different.

Ever since Activition realized it could charge that much for MW2 because of all the hype. idk other publishers probably just followed their trend

Either the staff was too stupid to realize PC games sell for 50 bucks, or they're just A-holes and tried to get an extra ten bucks out of you.

This. And COD 4 in Europe, that was also shipped at 60 € -to cut the price to 50€ just 18 months after-. But MW 2 status as "PC game" is subject to controversy.

Gamestop is a horrible place to buy PC games...I either buy it through steam or buy online if I want a hard copy.

Alot of new releases are about $120 for us actually. :p But yeah, PC games are getting more expensive, hence why alot of people use Steam.

A lot of absurd games were $50 and $60 at best buy today. And Gamestop had Divinity 2 on their shelves today. I have an advance review copy for work and the embargo isn't up until the fifth, when the game actually comes out. I went to the manager and explained this fact to him, and he said he never saw a shelf date for them so that's why he put them out. I was at two other GSs today (I was looking for a Mortal Kombat game is why) and they all had the same reasoning. Yes, I'll be contacting CDV. Gamestop are such idiots. First they stop selling used PC games, now this. Way to go.

Valve jacked up the price of HL2 to $55 because of all the hype.

Modern Warfare 2 for consoles costs about 70€ - 102 USD here. :P

Luckily I've never seen PC games for over 50€, but that is already 72 USD so we're getting ripped of no matter what. Fortunately there's amazon.co.uk and play.com.

You really didn't think they were going to stay $49.99 forever as inflation continues, did you? I don't know how the default price stayed frozen at the same amount for as long as it did myself. Anyway, the problem is easily avoided by not buying games which were just released. Most of the games I buy cost under $20. Gamestop's price doesn't match other places, including their own website....well, because they are Gamestop. :P

This.

I never buy form them, and most of all I never sell games to them... I would feel embarassed to offer someone what they offer you for a used game. Rip off is an understatement.
