Windows 7 > Windows XP these days. Even on low-end specs in my opinion.

em.... no? srsly, you will notice a performance drop, your system isn't good enough to take advantage of dx11 features and maybe even aero. No actual reason to try it besides it looks cool?

Your computer is fine. I ran 7 on a computer ten times worse than that w/o problems. Go for it.

What kind of games? Your GPU is rather weak. I'd say, stick with XP unless you don't plan to game.

1.5Gb of Ram isn't enough for gaming on Windows 7

In my experience, Windows 7 uses a lot more RAM than XP (~800mb vs ~1,200mb), so I'd stay on XP with those specs.

Stay with XP... WIth that rig, their is no benefit to go to windows 7 and actually you could depreciate in computer performance in comparison.

if all your playing is WoW on a private server go for it.. id also get a gpu as intel integrated sucks seriously eggs and seriuosly spending like 45 bucks on one means the difference between no visual splendor and all of it.

see what you have for expanson slots in your pc (or provide pictures of the physical inside of your computer) for advice in that regard.. and youd be laughing :P

here i shall try to get across what i mean

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAXn34ksZTE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9HLr4yvX2o&feature=related

thats going from lowest to highest with what is now a 45 dollar gpu.. idk it sells itself

the pc is the best at visual preformance END DISCUSSSION and if you want it you ened to pay for it.. and it does wonders.

You get to stash out for the licence, have a mess migrating to the new system and nothing in return really. Depending on what you use the system for it might run ok. But you really get nothing you can't get in XP. It would be neat to make the switch to 64 bit at the same time as switching operating system, but that would just make 1.5 GB of memory even more inadequate.

Sure he can get it running, but what are the perks?

simple security.. xp stopped getting security updates BLOODY AGES ago and is so exploitable it hurts my head thinking about them all

windows 7 is also a superior multimedia platform and an easier to use (for an everyday consumer) OS as well.

xp is more stable but 7 is exponentially more secure has alot of revamped features and has made it alot easier to get along with as a consumer.

windows 7 is everything xp isnt and then some. yes it would cut a hole in his preformance but baby steps.. rome wasnt built in a day (and anyone who says ANYTHING about civ 5 is getting /faceplamed)

XP is in extended support, they plan to continue releasing security updates until April 8th 2014.

7 has the "Do you feel lucky?"-button, that doesn't make it a security fortress.

I'd stick with XP on that machine. Is enough for what you're running and doing right now, but I'd wait til you have the cash to upgrade to a 'better' machine before making the switch to Win7... surmising you're strapped for cash right now, that is.

either that or buy a refursb with windows 7 already on it.. you can pick up some nice ones for like 350-450 and rock the block till you can afford a proper gpu
