got it on steam deal a long time ago. i barely started it and never touched it since. this is why steam deals are bad... i buy things before i'm ready to play them because "oooh what a good deal!"MuD3
Or you could exercise self control if you don't have the time to play those games.
Of course it is, it embraces it's stupidity. From what I agthered though it gets boring fast. I got it in the THQ bundle yesterday so I will play it at a later date. I don't expect to like it more than GTA though, at all. GTA games are a different beast. Well maybe more than GTA IV as that was a bit of a letdown.
Was my favorite in the series so far. The moment they stopped taking the series seriously was the moment it became fun as hell.
SR3 is great for its lunacy and a game I got in a Steam sale and was glad I did. The Sandbox king for me is still Just Cause 2 since the amount of hilarious mucking-around and excessive explosions never gets old in the game (There are fewer chances in SR to run around blowing nearly anything up "because you can"), even after you've finished the missions.

I have like 30 games I haven't even installed and others I've played maybe 2 hours worth then went onto another game, so I stopped buying just because it was cheap.
SR3 is really fun for a few weeks, especially if you play it with a friend but the story is a blast : D

Saints is better. It actually tries to be a fun game rather than a serious-yet-boring game like GTA 4.
Fallout series is open-world. Not sandbox. I'd still say Saints Row The Third is much better than Just Cause 2, but not better than FNV as a game in general though. Stalker games is still more open-world than sandbox. Elann2008What exactly is the distinction between open world and sandbox?
Yeah I agree. GTA 4 turned me off the GTA series abit, and SR3 definitely filled that void. Thoroughly enjoyable!just go buy it ...i use to be a gta fan now this is my new king !

It's fun but meh.. i find gta series superior in evryway. Sr3 gets boring really fast, it's all about going with a dild0 smashing pedestrians down and doing silly minigames.
I would agree, alongside Red Faction Guerilla and Just Cause 2. Volition are master of open-world sandbox game design.

A sandbox allows to play around and do whatever you please. Take JC2 - you can largely create your own fun by planting a bomb on a car, hooking the car to a helicopter and then using the car as an absurd demolition ball/bomb...and so on. You can also manipulate the environment (e.g. JC2's trees and some buildings).
An open world game (which does include sandbox games) will let you go anywhere, but your options are more limited. Take SR3 - once you've done the missions about all you can do is drive around and shoot things, there just isn't the scope to muck around to the same degree and the world itself isn't particularly destructible.
There is overlap, but that would be the difference as I see it.

A sandbox gives players the tools to create their own fun. But not much more. In an open world game, you may still be given tools to create your own fun, but ultimately, the tools will be limited compared to proper sandboxes and the focus is on the game entertaining you as opposed to letting you entertain yourself.
Minecraft and the sims are examples of sandboxes. GTA and Skyrim are examples of open world.

For example, let's look at two separate games, LA Noire and Just Cause 2.
In LA Noire, the world is indeed open, but there is nothing to do apart from story missions. No side activities to distract you, no side cases, even the police dispatch stuff is all scripted so they are all unique cases (unlike True Crime, which actually opened itself up a bit for more random crimes). The story is all there is to it, and the same goes for the Mafia games.
On the other hand, you have Just Cause 2, a game where you can do story missions in different orders, do side missions, looks for money or gear, and have an incentive to explore aside from some shoddily hidden items or just for the hell of looking around. It's something Red Faction: Guerrilla, Grand Theft Auto, inFamous, Prototype and I'd say Skyrim all do very well.
Saints Row 3 is more in the middle, it lacks all the side content of SR2, but it's still definitely a sandbox with the variety of side missions, side activities and goofing off you can do, plus the open ended nature of the missions.
Bored the crap out of me.
The story isn't half of what the story in SR2 was, the gameplay is repetitive and the low-res textures are just plain terrible.
But that's just my opinion.

That's a great question. It's a sandbox if you mistakenly called it an openworld and it's an openworld if you mistakenly called it a sandbox. Also, if you mistakenly posted something in the forums than it should have been a blog. But if you mistakenly posted something on the blog, than it should have been a forum post.
It's basically all just stuff for nerds to argue about.
